Job Overview

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the AVP Innovation, oversees the discovery, development and scoping of new solutions to create competitive advantage and seek to transform travel. Empowered to seek new market trends, create consumer insights, assess emerging technologies and their business relevance to develop groundbreaking opportunities that solve internal business problems and drive market growth.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the identification, development and evaluation of innovation concepts in a disciplined manner to maintain a strategic pipeline of innovation opportunities.
  • Apply the appropriate tools and defined methodologies to create and assess innovative capabilities and business models that enable the business to meet customer needs, maintain or grow market share, and potentially transform the travel industry.
  • Serve as a champion to build innovation capabilities and promote employee engagement at DFW.
  • Delivers innovative capabilities and business models that enable DFW to meet customer needs, maintain or grow revenue, and deliver exceptional consumer experiences.
  • Develops concepts and value propositions including feasibility proposals, business case development and strategic analysis includes analyzing alternative solutions and partners to determine strategic alignment of the new capability or emerging technology and its value to business.
  • Leads the analysis and structuring of strategic innovation opportunities using appropriate design thinking methodology for insight generation.
  • Identifies and analyzes new innovations and new value-added services that create value and growth opportunities in existing, adjacent or emerging markets.
  • Conducts trend analysis, consumer research aggregation, landscape/market analysis to support ideation phase of process and thought leadership.
  • Analyzes alternative solutions and partners to determine strategic alignment of the new capability or emerging technology. Assess specific needs of the business and markets to identify and tailor new solutions for those markets or stakeholders.
  • Interprets internal and external business issues and delivers recommendations to support business strategy.
  • Develops business requirements and/or product specifications for corporate wide projects and initiatives.
  • Assures appropriate internal stakeholders are included in "front end" process.
  • Develops and presents information documents and presentations for senior management to support innovative products, services and business models to obtain "buy in" and approval.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years' experience working within management consulting, product development, ideation, venture capital or in business development, innovation, strategic planning, product development, professional staff in highly regulated industry or innovation lab
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above on a year-for-year basis.
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver's license.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proven ability to develop business cases and express ideas abstractly and graphically.
  • Proven ability to work on multiple, complex projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of ideation techniques including design thinking, LEAN start up, Jobs to be Done, and facilitation methods. Working knowledge of underlying ecosystem across product, marketing, technology and operations.
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research, insight generation, concept and value proposition development
  • Ability to think creatively to solve challenges, visualize and articulate solutions.
  • Ability to hold him/herself accountable to create unique, market defining ideas, deliver on deadlines, foster a creative environment and act with urgency.
  • Skill in relationship building and networking to work both internally and externally to form strategic relationships that support innovation objectives and enhance innovation culture.
  • Ability to learn quickly new subjects and technologies - desire and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity and able to work in dynamic, collaborative and open environment.
