About the Senior Healthcare Analyst Position:

The Senior Healthcare Analyst serves as a subject matter expert responsible for leading complex analytical initiatives that drive clinical, operational, and financial decision-making across the organization. This role leverages advanced analytical methodologies and healthcare domain expertise to evaluate data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights that support business and organizational objectives. The Senior Healthcare Analyst partners closely with senior leadership to support data-driven decision-making, shaping initiatives that improve patient outcomes, reduce costs, support health plans, and ensure regulatory compliance.

This position is eligible for remote work, but quarterly travel will be required to Avalon's corporate office located in Tampa, Florida.

Senior Healthcare Analyst – Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end analytical projects from scoping and data acquisition through insight delivery and stakeholder presentation for all products
  • Design and maintain advanced dashboards, models, and reports that track contract performance, utilization, cost trends, and population health outcomes
  • Serve as a strategic partner to clinical, operational, and financial leadership, translating complex data into executive-level recommendations
  • Drive value-based care analytics, including risk stratification, gap-in-care identification, network performance, and total cost of care modeling
  • Lead cross-functional collaborations with IT, data engineering, and clinical informatics to define data standards and improve pipeline reliability
  • Proactively identify opportunities for operational improvement and build the analytical case for change
  • Establish and document best practices, reusable frameworks, and analytical standards for the team
  • Stay current on healthcare policy, reimbursement changes, and emerging analytics methodologies and translate implications for the organization.

Senior Healthcare Analyst – Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Informatics, Statistics, Business Analytics, or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience in healthcare analytics or health plan operations
  • Proficiency in SQL for querying relational databases
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Excel or similar
  • Familiarity with healthcare data types: claims data
  • Understanding of medical coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, DRG)
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
