Position Title:  Sr. Continuous Improvement Engineer          Department: Manufacturing

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Position Reports To: Manager of Manufacturing Engineering

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Continuous Improvement Engineer is a hands-on manufacturing focused expert in structured problem solving and continuous improvement tools, based at EOTECH headquarters in Plymouth, MI.  This engineer will be responsible for leading root cause investigations into process yield and product quality issues, as well as leading data driven continuous improvement initiatives. This role will also be responsible for taking quick action to resolve any non-conformances found and will lead cross functional teams to achieve rapid and sustainable improvements in scrap reduction, product quality and process stability.

The successful candidate will be a working leader – leading problem-solving teams, championing continuous improvement initiatives and metrics, and facilitating on-site training in problem solving methods.  A wide scope of work is expected. The role will include a combination of analytical and hands-on assignments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead cross functional teams in problem solving activities based on Six-Sigma, Lean, Shainin, or other structured problem-solving methods.
  • Develop and maintain statistical process control tools to provide early detection and reaction to process changes that may impact product quality.
  • Effectively interface and collaborate with Supplier Quality and Supply Chain to solve vendor quality issues and maintain an effective supply chain value stream.
  • Develop plans, flow charts, inspection methods and procedures (including detailed instructions, checklists, sampling plans, etc.) to assure all products, data and/or services meet specified quality requirements throughout entire product lifecycle.
  • Generate and maintain Process Control Plans and FMEAs throughout the entire product lifecycle.
  • Generate and deploy trend charts, histograms, and other SPC tools monitoring health of processes within the fabrication and assembly departments. Analyze metrics and indicators to determine opportunities for improvement.
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions through to resolution in partnership with internal and external parties.
  • Lead and educate teams on using the DMAIC process for problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage fault investigation and troubleshooting of assembly and test equipment, measuring devices and tools.
  • Lead/support certain budget and schedule activities as required by programs and management.
  • Demonstrate ethical and professional behavior in accordance with company values
  • Ensure a high level of customer service with both internal and external parties.
  • Perform job duties in a manner that maintains compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations, policies, and procedures

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings of complex nature
  • Ability to organize and analyze large volumes of numerical and non-numerical data.
  • Clear and concise communication of findings.
  • Extensive application of technical principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Expert user / facilitator/ trainer of problem-solving tools.  Develop solutions to non-routine, complex technical problems.
  • Works with limited oversite, across multiple departments. 
  • Will be the lead engineer assigned to high profile projects with significant impact to company performance.
  • Contacts are with production staff, engineers, technical staff, and cross-functional managers including executive staff.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Master’s degree or relevant certifications are a plus.

EXPERIENCE

  • 10 years of experience in a production/manufacturing environment
  • Experience with product/process quality improvement, data analysis tools/Minitab, failure investigation and corrective actions
  • Experience with design and maintenance of assembly fixtures.
  • Working proficiency in structured problem solving required.
  • Six Sigma-Black Belt required - (Master Black Belt preferred)
  • Shainin Journeyman – preferred
