Senior Bookkeeper / Staff Accountant

Position Overview

A well-established nonprofit organization in Southern Palm Beach County is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Bookkeeper / Staff Accountant to join its finance team. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting day-to-day accounting operations, assisting with financial reporting, and contributing to budget management.

The ideal candidate will possess strong bookkeeping and accounting experience, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and integrity. Experience in nonprofit accounting is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process accounts payable, including invoice review, coding, approvals, and payment preparation.
  • Maintain escrow accounting records and related transactions.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure accuracy of financial records.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Support preparation of financial statements and management reports.
  • Help maintain effective internal controls and ensure adherence to financial policies and procedures.
  • Assist with budget preparation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Maintain organized and accurate accounting files and records.
  • Handle confidential financial, employee, donor, and organizational information with discretion.
  • Collaborate with management and staff to resolve accounting and financial matters.
  • Perform other accounting-related duties as assigned.
QualificationsRequired
  • 5 to 7 years of bookkeeping and/or staff accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of general accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience with accounts payable, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Preferred
  • Nonprofit accounting experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
  • Familiarity with IRS Form 990 and nonprofit reporting requirements.
