Job description


The role of the Senior Applications Engineer is to be a technical authority to the organization on the Companyโ€™s product lines and lead the Application Engineer Team. Applications Engineers are primarily focused on sales activity evaluating new opportunities to determine the Companyโ€™s ability to manufacture products that meet customer requirements. The Senior Applications Engineer reports to the Director of Sales, however close collaboration with Project Team Leader is essential. It is the team leaderโ€™s responsibility to utilize the team in the most efficient and effective way to complete the requirements to the specifications in the required timeframe. Applications Engineers will be asked to assist with the development and training of new team members and work study students.


Responsibilities:

  • New Application Evaluation โ€“ Establish RFQs by working with outside sales and customers. Define and document the project scope and objectives. Determine if the scope matches Arnold Machineโ€™s capabilities, margin objectives, and business targets. Consult with Project Management Team and Engineer to confirm assessment. Work with sales to establish the best course of action based on the applicationโ€™s fit for Arnold Machine.
  • Estimating & Quoting - Once a determination has been made to proceed with a quote, prepare RFQ and work with sales and customer to ensure a manageable scope of work. The RFQ should contain a clear description of the application, requirements, and conceptual drawings/layouts. Utilize RFQ to create a Quotation. Work with Engineering, Project Managers, and production people to ensure accurate and achievable estimates. Work with Sales to submit and review the quote with the customer.
  • After Sale Transfer โ€“ When a Purchase order is received, ensure clean technical transfer to Engineering and Project Management with documented assumptions, exclusions, and scope boundaries. Periodic meetings with engineering and production personnel during the design, build, testing, and installation to ensure project scope, schedule, and budget. Work with Sales and Project Management to create Change Orders when the customer makes changes.
  • Leadership and Coaching Skills - Lead, coach, and develop the Applications Engineers, including workload prioritization and technical mentoring. Establish best practices for estimating, quoting, and concept development across the team. Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance feedback for Applications Engineers and work study students. Maintain a positive and collaboration team culture.
  • Team Goal Achievement โ€“ Ensure the AE team meets annual quotation volume, hit rate, margin, and project budget KPIs.


Requirements:

  • 5 to 10 Years Work Experience in Application Engineering
  • Bachelor or Associate degree in Engineering
  • Experience mentoring and coaching teams of 2 โ€“ 4 engineers
  • Knowledge of product design and shop floor processes as required to estimate product cost.
  • Fluent in 2D and 3D modeling is a plus to develop equipment layouts or proposal drawings โ€“ Solid Works is a plus.
  • Experience using CRM and quoting tools such as Hubspot and Pandadoc are a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical controls
