Job description

Partner with the world's most influential investors to shape the C-suite of high-growth healthcare companies. As a Director at Oxeon, you leverage your expertise in private equity mandates to combine ownership, mentorship, and strategic influence in shaping the companies of tomorrow.
About Oxeon
Imagine a healthcare system every person can trust. That's big. And that's our mission. Every day, we identify and connect with likeminded mission-driven leaders with diverse perspectives. Our rich healthcare network is made up of a community of innovators who come from all corners of the country - and the industry - bringing invaluable insights on how to build a more equitable future for health.
We're not afraid to do things a little differently. To empower the people who are powering transformative outcomes and sustainable change in this industry, we had to create a new method of operating. As a mission-driven, people-centered organization, we've done away with one-sided transactional norms. Through collaboration, trust and our change-maker spirit, we're founded on the value of relationships.
We always have a pulse on healthcare. Oxeon is connected with healthcare's top talent, from prestigious legacy leaders to up-and-coming pioneers and leading healthcare investors. Harnessing our unique perspective on industry trends and emerging ideas, we offer invaluable insights to our clients, candidates and investors alike. The building blocks of healthcare starts with Oxeon - where people, ideas and capital unite with a shared vision.
Visit Oxeon.com to learn more about how we're building a higher-functioning healthcare ecosystem that delivers equitable experiences for patients and providers alike.
Why You'll Love Working Here
At Oxeon, we are:
  • Healthcare-focused and industry-centric: We work only in healthcare, connecting leaders who shape the future of health delivery, technology, life sciences, and value-based care.
  • Relationship-driven and strategic: Our approach combines data, deep networks, and consultative thought partnership to build leadership teams that truly move the needle.
  • Entrepreneurial and aligned: Every employee receives equity in Oxeon investments from day one, so your success is directly tied to the growth and impact you help create.
  • High-growth and collaborative: We embrace autonomy, mentorship, and cross-functional teamwork, with opportunities to influence business development, process design, market insights, and internal strategy.

We hold ourselves to six core values: Intellectual Curiosity, Emotional Intelligence (EQ), Ownership, Resilience, Collaboration and Spirit of Generosity. These values guide our every action - from the way we hire, to how we invest, to how we serve our clients.
Perhaps most importantly, we have a lot of fun together. As part of the Oxeon team, you might be asked to take over as office DJ, don a costume for Spirit Week, or teach us about your favorite hobby. We encourage laughter and celebration in our everyday work.
About the Search Director Role
Our Search Directors operate as our representatives in the market and key thought partners to our clients and leaders in the healthcare industry - both on the operating and investing side. You will be asked to develop a comprehensive understanding of our clients, their markets, products/services, competition, and differentiation.
You'll oversee executive search strategies and advise clients on talent needs, organizational design, and market dynamics, leveraging Oxeon's proprietary networks and insights. You will utilize internal and external databases to source and engage potential executive-level candidates.
You'll lead a team on each search that is responsible for contacting and deeply interviewing prospective candidates by telephone, video, or in-person meetings. You will be assessing for cultural fit, interest level and overall level of expertise of these executives (This is one of our favorite aspects of this job!).
Role Responsibilities
  • Lead complex retained executive search mandates across high-growth, investor-backed sectors, partnering closely with investors and founders. Ensure delivery of top-tier C-suite talent throughout each engagement.
  • Drive business development and revenue growth by identifying new opportunities and building long-term partnerships with VC/PE firms and portfolio company leadership.
  • Serve as a high-level assessor of leadership, conducting deep-dive interviews and candidate evaluations to identify executives capable of navigating fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
  • Advise clients as a strategic consultant on executive talent trends, competitive landscapes, and organizational design across diverse, growth-stage ecosystems.
  • Consult on succession planning, executive assessment, and talent strategy for scaling ventures and private equity portfolios.
  • Shape executive search strategy and thought leadership, enhancing the firm's reputation among top-tier talent and the broader investment community.
  • Mentor and manage teams of Associates and Senior Associates, taking ultimate accountability for search delivery and team professional development.
  • Act as a key brand ambassador, leveraging your personal network and the firm's ecosystem to source and engage world-class executive talent.

Requirements for the Role
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 6-12 years of relevant work experience in retained executive search, with a specific and proven focus on executing mandates for private equity-backed clients.
  • Demonstrated success in business development and the ability to originate and manage complex, high-stakes client relationships.
  • Exceptional executive presence with the ability to build rapport and influence world-class C-suite candidates and sophisticated institutional investors.
  • Strong talent management skills, with experience coaching and developing junior team members in a high-performance, metrics-driven environment.
  • Deep understanding of the private equity investment lifecycle, including familiarity with portfolio company value creation levers and the nuances of the PE/VC talent landscape.
  • Proven track record of building networks across private equity, venture capital, and executive talent markets.
  • You are motivated and excited to learn, teach, and persevere in an entrepreneurial environment through high-pressure situations.

What You Can Expect From Us
  • A flexible, hybrid work model. We work together in the New York office 3 days per week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays) and are flexible Mondays and Fridays. Additionally, everyone has additional "work from anywhere" days, where they can choose to work remotely for extended periods of time.
  • Quality time together. We spend time together at bi-weekly all-hands, annual offsites and events throughout the year to build culture, laugh, foster learning and development, and deepen relationships with one another.
  • Investment Fund interest. We are relationship- and long-term results-oriented in all we do. We align firm and employee compensation with equity and team performance. Consistent with the shift from fee-for-service to value-based care, this approach eliminates transactions and invests us fully in the success of our clients and portfolio companies. Every Oxeon employee receives equity in an Oxeon investment fund from day one.
  • Great compensation and benefits. We offer competitive compensation, 100% employer paid medical and dental insurance for you and your family (we are a healthcare company after all!), paid parental leave, 401k, great snacks, and a fun, flexible open-office environment.
  • Opportunity to give back. We believe in giving back to the community and helping those in need, which is why every employee is given volunteer opportunities and a generous annual philanthropic match to support causes important to them.

Salary Expectations
  • Cash Compensation Components, depending on location and experience
    • Base salary range: $108,000 - 162,000
    • Annual Firm Bonus target: 12% of base
    • Incentive compensation: Our IC program is a high-upside, transparent model designed to reward your direct impact on search production. Unlike flat-rate plans, Oxeon utilizes a tiered payout grid where your reward percentage automatically increases as your annual book of business grows, allowing high performers to earn significantly more as they scale. Average, but not guaranteed, payments can range from an additional 20-150% of base salary as a director grows their execution and book of business.
  • Investment Fund Shares: Cash distributions are variable based on tenure and fund performance.

What We'd Like From You:
