Job description

Cherry Bekaert Recruiting & Staffing is conducting a search for a Senior Project Accountant to support a dynamic and growing organization. This role will be responsible for overseeing all phases of the construction job costing process, ensuring accurate financial reporting, cost tracking, and risk management across multiple projects.
Title: Senior Project Accountant
Location: Hybrid - Dulles / Brandywine
Salary Range: $91,000 - $110,000
Job Type: Permanent / Full Time
This position partners closely with Project Managers, contractors, and internal teams to ensure timely and accurate financial management throughout the project lifecycle, while supporting both project-level and team success.
Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and configure projects in COINS, including contract review, billing rates, and tax requirements
  • Prepare and analyze monthly project billings in accordance with contract terms
  • Assist with cash forecasting, payment applications, and variance analysis
  • Manage vendor compliance, including insurance, lien waivers, POs, and W-9s
  • Perform financial analysis and reconcile project costs against budgets; support audits
  • Analyze job performance and profitability through cost tracking and reporting
  • Support Sales & Use tax filings at both divisional and corporate levels
  • Maintain accurate project status, budgets, and reporting in COINS
  • Identify and resolve project-related accounting issues in a timely manner [
  • Mentor and support a team of 2-4 Project Accountants
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of project accounting experience, ideally within construction
  • Experience with Cost Plus (GMP), fixed-fee, and lump-sum revenue recognition
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and job costing methodologies
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, project-driven environment
