Job description

Job Title: Asphalt Screed Operator Location: York, PA

Screed Operator Responsibilities

  • Operate the screed on an asphalt paving machine to achieve the desired thickness and smoothness of asphalt surfaces.
  • Manipulate levers to control asphalt flow, screed angle, and depth for consistent mat thickness and smoothness to maintain a consistent and even surface.
  • Continuously observe material flow and adjust settings to achieve final surface quality according to project plans.
  • Work closely with the paver operator and other crew members to maintain production, quality standards and to ensure efficient and effective paving operations.
  • Perform pre-shift inspections, clean, and conduct basic maintenance inspections on the screed and paving machine.
  • Adjust screed settings and extensions to achieve desired width, depth, slope, and smooth finish, often using stakes and levels.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures, wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and ensure a safe work environment, often near traffic or in extreme temperatures.
Requirements
  • Ability to run screed on Leeyboy class paver and high deck highway class paver
  • Minimum of 2 yearsโ€™ experience running screed
  • Strong understanding and use of electronics and joint matchers
  • Understand the operations and process of running paver
  • Knowledge of the technologies of the grade and slope controls, vibratory control, extensions and cut-off shoes
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in various conditions
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment upkeep
  • Good communication and teamwork
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation; CDL a plus especially with tanker endorsement
