Asphalt Luteman
Full-Time | Paving Crew

Job Summary
We're looking for a hardworking Asphalt Luteman to join our paving crew. This is a hands-on, physically demanding role responsible for helping achieve a smooth, high-quality asphalt finish behind the paver.

Responsibilities

  • Use a lute (asphalt rake) to spread, distribute, and smooth hot asphalt mix behind the paving machine
  • Fill in low spots, joints, and irregular areas to ensure proper grade and thickness
  • Work closely with the paver operator, screed operator, and rollers to maintain consistent mat quality
  • Handle asphalt at high temperatures safely, following all PPE and heat-safety protocols
  • Assist with hand-patching, edge work, and cleanup around utility structures, manholes, and curbs
  • Communicate clearly with the crew to keep paving operations moving efficiently
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
  • Follow all site safety procedures, traffic control plans, and DOT regulations as applicable

Requirements

  • Previous experience on a paving/asphalt crew preferred, but willing to train the right candidate
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat
  • Ability to lift 50+lbs repeatedly and stand/walk for long shifts
  • Comfortable working near heavy equipment and hot materials
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to job sites
  • Valid driver's license preferred
  • Strong work ethic, team mentality, and attention to detail

Physical Demands
This role requires prolonged standing, bending, lifting, and working in hot outdoor conditions near heavy machinery.
