Description
Under general supervision, adjusts and controls the distribution and placement of asphaltic mixtures from mechanized asphalt-laying equipment; assists in directing a small crew of workers engaged in preparing and finishing asphalt surfaces.
Examples of Duties
MAJOR JOB DUTIES:
1. Adjusts and controls the flow, width, distribution, and grade of asphaltic mixtures from asphalt paving machines by manipulating and adjusting external control devices.
2. Ensures asphaltic mixtures brought to specified grade and depth.
3. Assigns other workers to specific manual raking and luting tasks.
4. Directs dumping of asphalt into machines.
5. Instructs other workers in controlling the laying operation of paving machines.
6. Assists superior in directing pavement areas to be cut out to ensure quality work in resurfacing.
7. Assists in training other workers in activities associated with street resurfacing or construction such as to manually rake and lute asphalt, tend tool heaters and asphalt kettles, cut out heaves and other preparatory work prior to resurfacing.
8. Performs and/or leads other workers in performing any tasks associated with asphalt resurfacing activities.
Minimum Qualifications
High School graduation or G.E.D.
Three (3) years of experience in asphalt paving including two years of experience in controlling the operation of asphalt paving machines.
