Job description

Job Summary -

We are seeking a hardworking and reliable Asphalt Crew Laborer to join our paving team. The ideal candidate will assist in the preparation, laying, and finishing of asphalt on roads, driveways, parking lots, and other surfaces. This is a physically demanding position that requires a strong work ethic, attention to safety, and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities -

  • Assist in the preparation of surfaces for paving (sweeping, cleaning, applying tack coat, etc.)
  • Shovel, rake, and level hot mix asphalt.
  • Operate hand tools and small equipment (e.g., plate compactors, tampers, brooms).
  • Support the paving machine by feeding asphalt and maintaining a consistent workflow.
  • Ensure proper compaction and smoothness of asphalt during and after application.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work zone by clearing debris and adhering to safety guidelines.
  • Follow instructions from foremen and other supervisors.
  • Load and unload tools, materials, and equipment at the job site.
  • Perform daily equipment and tool checks and maintenance as needed.
  • Directs traffic near, in, or around work zones.
  • General laborer duties associated with asphalt paving, patching, or prep crews.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements -

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Prior experience in asphalt paving or construction preferred but not required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Knowledge of road and traffic regulations
  • Comfortable with physical labor and standing for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and take direction.
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Valid Drivers License preferred.
  • Ability to work long hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed.
  • Must be willing to travel overnight when projects are outside the local area.
