Reports to: Regional Vice President of Sales Engineering
Travel: Regular business travel required
About the Role
The Director of Sales Engineering leads a geographically distributed team of Sales Engineers supporting enterprise and government customers. This role partners closely with Sales and cross-functional teams to drive revenue growth, deliver technically sound solutions, and ensure a strong customer experience from pre-sale through activation.
This leader is both strategic and hands-on-providing direction, coaching, and oversight while enabling the sales organization with deep technical expertise, strong process discipline, and effective collaboration across the business.
What You'll Do
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Sales Engineers providing pre-sales technical support
  • Partner closely with regional Sales leadership to align technical strategy with revenue goals
  • Serve as a key liaison between Sales, Operations, Project Management, and Product teams to support successful customer deployments
  • Oversee solution design for complex opportunities, RFP responses, and out-of-scope requests
  • Ensure consistent, accurate, and ethical communication of product capabilities and solutions
  • Drive standardized processes, tools, and best practices across all markets
  • Support customer escalations and help ensure a positive overall customer experience
  • Provide ongoing training to the sales organization on products, technology, and industry trends
  • Prepare and review KPIs, forecasts, and performance metrics
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop Sales Engineering talent
  • Partner with Product Development on new service launches and enhancements

What You Bring
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Telecommunications certifications preferred (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, MEF)

Experience:
  • 8+ years in telecom pre-sales technical roles or
  • 3+ years in Sales Engineering leadership
  • Strong knowledge of fiber networks, metro Ethernet, transport delivery, IP services, SD-WAN, voice solutions, and cloud environments
  • Solid understanding of the OSI model, network design, and telecom installation workflows
  • Experience with financial modeling, ROI calculations, pricing, and profitability analysis
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and mapping/GIS tools

  • Proven people leader with experience managing geographically dispersed teams
  • Strong communicator with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Highly organized, analytical, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
