What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales development representative SDR?

A Sales Development Representative (SDR) needs strong communication, persuasive outreach, and active listening skills, often with a background in business or sales. SDRs often have clear paths for professional growth within sales organizations, with many advancing to roles such as Account Executive, Sales Manager, or even sales operations and marketing positions. Top-performing SDRs may receive promotions or opportunities to work with larger accounts or enterprise clients. The role provides valuable exposure to different sales strategies, customer industries, and senior team members, supporting skill development and networking. Many organizations offer mentoring, training, and defined career ladders to help SDRs succeed and move up.
