Job description

Purposeย 

The Safetyย & Riskย Managerย is responsible forย developing, implementing, and overseeing the Company's Safetyย &ย Risk Management programs across all business locations. This position serves as the subject matter expert for workplace safety, OSHA compliance, workers' compensation administration, return-to-work programs, motor vehicle safety, and regulatory compliance.ย 

The Safetyย & Riskย Manager partners closely with Human Resources, Operations, and field leadership to reduce workplace injuries, improve employee safety, ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, and foster a culture of safety throughout the organization.ย 

This roleย is responsible forย driving continuous improvement by implementing proactive safety initiatives, analyzing safety trends, managing compliance programs, and supporting business leaders in creating safe work environments across multiple states.ย 

Safety & OSHA Complianceย 

  1. Lead company-wide safety programs and ensure compliance with federal OSHA and applicable state-plan requirements.ย 

  1. Maintain required OSHA records and reporting, including OSHA 300, 301, and 300A requirements, and support regulatory inspections, inquiries, citations, and corrective actions.ย 

  1. Develop,ย maintain, and review required safety programs and plans, including hazard communication, PPE, emergency response, heat illness prevention, workplace violence prevention, and other applicable state or site-specific requirements.ย 

  1. Conduct safety inspections, field/job-site assessments, audits, and hazard reviews; track corrective actions through completion.ย 

Incident Prevention, Investigation & Trainingย 

  1. Lead investigations of workplace injuries, incidents, near misses, and vehicle accidents; complete root-cause analysis and recommend preventive actions.ย 

  1. Develop and deliver required and risk-based safety training, including new-hire and supervisor training, andย maintainย appropriate trainingย records.ย 

  1. Analyze safety trends and partner with operational leaders to improve safe work practices, accountability, and injury prevention.ย 

Workersโ€™ Compensation & Return to Workย 

  1. Manage the day-to-day multi-state workersโ€™ compensation process from injury reporting through claim closure.ย 

  1. Partner directly with adjusters, TPAs, brokers, medical providers, HR, and operational leaders to supportย timelyย claim handling and escalation.ย 

  1. Lead return-to-work andย modified-duty coordination,ย monitorย work restrictions and lost-time claims, and supportย appropriateย andย timelyย return to work.ย 

  1. Monitor claim status, reserves, costs, work loss, and significant developments and communicate/escalate asย appropriate.ย 

Driver Safety & Risk Managementย 

  1. Manage the Companyโ€™s MVR and driver-safety program, including eligibility reviews, continuous monitoring, andย appropriate escalations.ย 

  1. Review vehicle and operational safety trends and partner with Fleet, Operations, and insurance partners on risk-reduction initiatives.ย 

Reporting & Continuous Improvementย 

  1. Maintainย accurateย safety and claims systems, records, dashboards, and reporting.ย 

  1. Monitor key safety and risk metrics, including OSHA recordables, incident trends, reporting lag, work loss, claim severity/cost, vehicle incidents, training completion, and corrective actions.ย 

  1. Recommend and implement process improvements that strengthen compliance, reduce risk, and improveย the employeeย and operational experience.ย 

  1. Perform other duties as assigned.ย ย 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilitiesย 

  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA requirements, workplace safety practices, workersโ€™ compensation, return-to-work programs, and multi-state compliance.ย 

  • Ability to assess hazards, investigate incidents, interpret safety and claims data, and drive corrective action.ย 

  • Strong judgment, organization, follow-through, communication, and leadership skills.ย 

  • Ability to partner effectively with field leaders, executives, employees, regulators, insurance partners, and cross-functional teams.ย 

  • Ability to handle confidential medical, claims, litigation, and employee information appropriately.ย 

Education & Experienceย 

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Occupational Safety, Human Resources, Business, Risk Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.ย 

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible safety and risk experience, including hands-on OSHA compliance, workersโ€™ compensation/claims management, incident investigation, and safety program administration.ย 

  • Multi-state and multi-location experienceย stronglyย preferred; skilled trades, field services, construction, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or similar operational environments preferred.ย 

  • Relevant safety certifications (e.g., CSP, ASP, CHST, OSHA 30)ย preferred.ย 

Licensing/Certificationsย 

  • OSHA certification orย professionalย safety certification (CSP, ASP, COSS, etc.) preferred.ย 
    Travel Requirement up to 25%
