Job description

Safety & Risk Specialist

Salary at $90,000

Hybrid

Drawing on industry best practices and regulatory standards, the Safety & Risk Specialist proactively identifies emerging trends and potential hazards within operational environments. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to assess risk factors and develop mitigation strategies tailored to the specific needs of the organization. A key aspect of the position is fostering a culture of continuous improvement, where safety protocols are regularly evaluated and enhanced to reflect both technological advancements and evolving compliance requirements. By engaging with employees at all levels, the specialist ensures that safety measures are not only understood but also embraced as an integral part of daily operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Prompt and regular attendance at work

· Identifies, analyzes and reports risks to the productivity and profitability of the organization including safety performance and regulatory compliance related to safety, health, environmental and risk management issues.

· Regularly visit operational locations and conduct ride-a-longs to observe conditions and identify needs to improve the safety of the operation.

· Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and communication within the organization at all levels and provide counsel to management on safety and risk management performance.

· Ensures the effective implementation, development and enhancement of the Safety and Risk Management program.

· Writes and delivers presentations to management or government officials (e.g. OSHA) regarding safety, health and risk management as needed.

· Demonstrates management style that is team oriented pro-active and customer service driven in accord with divisional team philosophy.

· Is a resource for area on all safety, health, environmental and risk management matters

· Works closely with Corporate head of Safety and Risk to implement and monitor Region and Corporate-wide safety, health, environmental and risk management initiatives.

· Consults with Director and AVP of Human Resources on matters that may significantly impact the region as a whole.

· Supports local management in the implementation of safety and risk solutions to enhance operational performance.

· Implements and ensures the completion or relevant safety and health training for employees.

· Reviews and ensures accuracy of OSHA 300, 300A, 301, and Sharps Log.

· Works with TPA to determine injury reportability to OSHA.

· Ensures posting of the OSHA 300A log.

· Actively involved in leadership of local Safety Committees.

· Perform all other duties as assigned.

· Coordinate with Operations to ensure compliance with various Safety and Risk Management regulatory requirements.

· Act as key contact for Safety and Risk to assist in various tasks including monthly National Safety Initiative distribution and other identified projects.

· Attend monthly regional safety and risk management conference call to discuss trends, problem areas and share best practices. Communicate this information to local management team.

· Develop regular schedule of meetings with employee representatives to address safety issues. Review current practices, correct deficiencies and improve general performance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

· High School diploma or equivalent.

· Strong analytical, incident investigation and report writing skills.

· Excellent communication and leadership skills.

· Valid Driver’s License.

· Must have an acceptable driver history as determined by the company and outlined in the National Safety Risk Manual.

· This position requires occasional travel.

· Must be available for after-hours incidents, as needed.

· Ability to work under pressure and handle crisis situations effectively.

· Proven ability to lead and influence others, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey safety information and build strong relationships with stakeholders.

· A proactive and analytical mindset with the ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex challenges.

· A strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and individuals.

· A self-motivated and self-reliant approach to work, with a strong sense of ethics and values based on integrity and trust.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences, Occupational Safety and health, or Industrial safety from an accredited four-year college or University is preferred.

· Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA and ADA.

· Skilled in the use of personal computers and associated word-processing, spreadsheet and database software.

· Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and employees.

· Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

· Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

· Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
