Agile Release Train Engineer (RTE)

Hybrid Onsite in Atlanta, GA


Overview

The Agile Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a servant leader and coach responsible for facilitating and optimizing the flow of value across one or more Agile Release Trains (ARTs). The RTE works closely with multiple Agile teams, product management, and key stakeholders to ensure alignment, manage risks, and drive continuous improvement across large-scale, cross-functional initiatives.


Key Responsibilities


Facilitate Program-Level Events:

  • Lead and facilitate Program Increment (PI) Planning sessions, ensuring that all teams within the ART align on objectives, priorities, and dependencies.
  • Organize and support key events, including Scrum of Scrums, system demos, and inspect & adapt workshops.


Coordinate Cross-Team Collaboration:

  • Manage inter-team dependencies, track progress, and proactively remove impediments to ensure smooth delivery of program objectives.
  • Serve as the primary point of escalation for risks and issues, collaborating with stakeholders to implement effective mitigations.


Promote Agile and Lean Practices:

  • Act as a coach and mentor to Agile teams, promoting the adoption of Agile, Lean, and SAFe principles and practices.
  • Facilitate continuous improvement by leading retrospectives and encouraging a culture of learning and adaptation.


Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:

  • Maintain transparent communication with business owners, product management, and other key stakeholders to ensure alignment on strategic goals and value delivery.
  • Provide regular updates on ART performance and progress against the PI plan, utilizing metrics and data-driven insights.


Drive Program Execution and Improvement:

  • Monitor and report on ART metrics (e.g., predictability, velocity, quality) to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Foster a collaborative environment that empowers teams to innovate, resolve challenges, and continuously improve their processes.


Required Qualifications and Skills


Experience & Background:

  • Proven experience in an Agile environment, with prior roles such as Release Train Engineer, Scrum Master, or Agile Coach.
  • Demonstrated success in facilitating large-scale Agile programs and managing cross-functional teams.


Technical & Methodological Proficiency:

  • Strong understanding of Agile frameworks, especially SAFe, along with experience in Scrum, Kanban, and Lean practices.
  • Ability to leverage Agile metrics and data to drive decision-making and process improvements.


Leadership & Communication:

  • Excellent facilitation, coaching, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead diverse teams and manage stakeholder relationships effectively.
  • Proven ability to manage risks, remove impediments, and drive complex, cross-team initiatives in dynamic environments.
  • Certifications:
  • Relevant Agile certifications such as SAFe Program Consultant (SPC), SAFe Agilist (SA), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), or equivalent are highly desirable.


Education:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent work experience.
