Route Supervisors are responsible for the supervision of a group of drivers to ensure safe services to customers. Route Supervisors assist management with hiring, training, coaching, performance evaluating/monitoring, and counseling of direct reports with an emphasis on safety, customer service, and productivity.
Shift: 830am-6:00pm M-F
Responsibilities of Position:
  • Manage the daily activities and performance of route drivers
  • Train, coach, and direct employees to improve their overall performance
  • Monitor and enforce quality and safety standards and ensure all compliance goals are met or exceeded
  • Run routes as necessary (absences, vacations, vehicle breakdowns)
  • Monitor and track employee attendance and all other required documentation relating to performance management
  • Perform and monitor driver observations and vehicle inspections
  • Plan, distribute, monitor, and follow-up on daily route assignments to ensure customers are serviced per company standards and agreements
  • Conduct investigations for accidents, injuries, and property damage claims
  • Fill in during the absence of other supervisors/office employees or drivers
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Supervisory Responsibility:
  • This position will manage 6-20 employees
  • This position will not oversee and direct other managers

Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead and develop a team
  • Computer skills; working knowledge of Windows applications, Microsoft applications
  • Proven customer service skills
  • Knowledge of the area with the ability to read maps
  • Must be able to work independently, make decisions, and resolve problems
  • Must have knowledge of DOT/OSHA regulations
  • Ability to drive a truck with manual transmission, a plus

Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:
  • Previous management experience is preferred
  • Previous waste industry experience is a plus
  • 2+ years of truck driving experience is a plus

Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:
  • Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 50 lbs
  • Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
  • Frequently working outside in changing temperatures
  • Occasionally working in wet/humid conditions
  • Occasionally working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
  • Frequently stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
  • Frequently climbing and/or balancing
  • Frequently sitting/standing/walking

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:
  • Must have at least a valid Class B CDL
  • Must have a valid DOT Medical Card or able to obtain prior to hire
  • Must be at least 19 years of age
  • No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years
  • Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years
  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste
  • Ability to travel between offices, as required
  • Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Valid driver's license (if applicable)
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language
