Job description

Department: Private Fleet (Final Mile)

Location: Harrisburg, PA

Salary range: $60,000/year - $76,000/year

Overview

The Transportation Supervisor is a customer-focused delivery leader responsible for overseeing daily transportation operations and supporting route execution in a small facility or department. This role works closely with the leader to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery service. This hands-on leadership role will direct and coach delivery drivers, leverage performance metrics, safety standards, and customer feedback to drive continuous improvement and actively support business growth through customer visits and sharing sales leads. May be required to perform day-to-day activities such as covering delivery routes, delivering packages, and moving equipment/vehicles, etc.

Primary Responsibilities

Operations Management:

  • Oversee daily transportation and/or distribution operations for the assigned facility or satellite location
  • Supervise route execution, delivery schedules, and workflow efficiency
  • Monitor productivity, service levels, and operational accuracy to ensure KPIs are achieved
  • Provide hands-on operational support as needed, including receiving, storage, order fulfillment, loading, and delivery
  • Provide route coverage/make deliveries to customers using commercial vehicles, which requires the ability to lift up to 75lb and the ability to handle individual items up to 200 lbs. with the use of manual material handling equipment. 

People Leadership:

  • Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing team of drivers and operations coworkers
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
  • Manage staffing levels and allocate resources based on business volume and operational needs
  • Communicate effectively with team members and promote an open, collaborative work environment

Safety & Compliance:

  • Promote a strong culture of safety and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct safety audits and lead ongoing safety training initiatives
  • Monitor driver performance, safety metrics, and DOT compliance standards

Customer & Business Support:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, customers, and third-party carriers
  • Address service issues and ensure a positive customer experience
  • Identify potential business opportunities and share leads with the sales team when appropriate

Continuous Improvement:

  • Evaluate processes and identify opportunities to improve service, efficiency, and cost management Implement operational improvements to optimize workflows and labor utilization
  • Adjust staffing, schedules, and routing based on changing business needs

Qualifications Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in transportation, distribution, or operations leadership
  • 2+ year of commercial driving experience; package delivery preferred
  • Experience managing delivery drivers, fleet operations, or last-mile transportation preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop drivers through ride-alongs, safety coaching, and customer service training
  • Experience using KPIs, safety metrics, and operational data to drive performance improvements
  • Previous customer service experience preferred
  • Experience operating pallet jacks, hand trucks, and forklifts preferred
  • Experience with loading docks, desktop deliveries, and bulk deliveries preferred
  • Ability and willingness to operate a delivery vehicle or run a route when needed to support operations during peak periods or emergencies,
  • Ability to transport single cartons up to 75 pounds as needed
  • Ability to handle individual items up to 200 lbs. with the use of team lift and/or hand tools as needed
  • Ability to use manual and/or powered pallet jacks to transport pallets of products up to 2,500 pounds as needed

Special Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (no moving violations within the past 36 months)
  • Must meet Department of Transportation (DOT) qualification requirements

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelors preferred

Technical Competencies & Information Systems:

  • Experience using handheld POD devices or tablets for delivery tracking and confirmation
  • Familiarity with GPS routing systems and scanning devices
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook

  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Self-motivated with a team-oriented mindset
  • Comfortable in a hands-on, field-based leadership role
  • Ability to lead through change and provide constructive coaching
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities

  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, using the English language (English competency)
  • Must be able to lift up to 75lb
  • Must be able to handle individual items up to 200 lbs. with the use of manual pallet jack.
  • Must able to manual and/or powered pallet jacks to transport pallets of products up to 2,500 pounds
