Description of Work
The Rights and Permissions Assistant Editor works closely with the Rights and Contracts Associate Editor/Coordinator to support the University of Nebraska Press's permissions, copyright, and related rights workflows, including selected contract administration and subsidiary-rights activity. This position handles reprint permissions and other routine permissions requests; researches rights status, ownership, and license terms; registers published books for copyright; coordinates rights clearance for cover art and other uses of text and images; supports audio, translation, and other subrights activity; and prepares, routes, and tracks standard contracts and related documentation. The position also collaborates with acquisitions, editorial, design and production, and marketing staff on illustration permissions, media-use requests, and other rights-related workflows. This position reports to the Editor in Chief.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience in publishing, editorial support, permissions, copyright, licensing, contract administration, or other closely related work.
  • Knowledge of copyright and fair use principles, familiarity with subsidiary rights, and experience maintaining permissions or rights databases.
