Resource Development Director Jobs (NOW HIRING)

Salary: $115,000 - $125,000

Providing the highest quality substance use disorder services for youth and adults in Monterey and San Benito Counties.

Mission Focus: The Development Director plays a critical role in ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of Valley Health Associates and expanding resources that improve health outcomes for the communities we serve.

Position Summary
The Development Director is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing all fundraising, donor engagement, and development activities to advance Valley Health Associates mission of providing accessible, high-quality healthcare services to the community. The Development Director will cultivate relationships with donors, foundations, corporations, and community partners to secure financial resources that support organizational sustainability and growth. Evening and weekend hours may be required to meet donors and engage in community events.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising and Resource Development

• Develop and execute an annual fundraising plan aligned with organizational priorities and financial goals.
• Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
• Lead major gift initiatives and planned giving opportunities.
• Research and pursue grant opportunities and oversee grant writing and reporting.
• Plan and implement annual giving campaigns and special fundraising events.
• Establish fundraising goals and track progress toward achieving revenue targets.
• Coordinate and oversee Grant Contractor to ensure any grant and corporate request are in alignment with the fundraising strategy.

Donor and Community Relations

• Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, community leaders, businesses, and philanthropic organizations.
• Develop donor recognition and stewardship programs to strengthen long-term engagement.
• Serve as an ambassador for Valley Health Associates  within the community.
• Coordinate community outreach initiatives that increase awareness and support of the organization's mission.

Strategic Leadership

• Collaborate with the Executive Director and leadership team to identify funding priorities and strategic opportunities.
• Provide regular reports on fundraising activities, donor engagement, and development metrics.
• Develop and monitor the development budget.
• Ensure fundraising activities comply with all applicable regulations and ethical standards.

Marketing and Communications

• Partner with communications staff and or contractor  to develop compelling fundraising materials, impact reports, and donor communications.
• Oversee development-related marketing strategies, including digital campaigns and social media initiatives.
• Communicate the impact of donor support through storytelling and data-driven reporting.
• Maintain media relationships and support press/PR outreach.
• Ensure the website is optimized for online donations
• Use a metrics-driven approach to evaluate marketing effectiveness
• Oversee creation of marketing and fundraising materials, including annual impact report and newsletters

Board Engagement

• Partner with the Board of Directors to strengthen philanthropic leadership and fundraising participation.
• Support board members in donor cultivation and stewardship activities.
• Assist in developing and implementing board fundraising expectations and initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or a related field; master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible fundraising and development experience, preferably in healthcare and/or nonprofit organizations.
• Demonstrated success in securing major gifts, grants, and corporate sponsorships.
• Strong relationship-building, communication, and presentation skills.
• Experience managing fundraising events and donor databases.
• Experience in a small shop organization.
• Knowledge of healthcare funding trends and philanthropic practices.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and donor management software.
• Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) or comparable certification preferred, supplemented by an active professional affiliation (e.g. AFP)
