Job Description:
Apex Systems is currently hiring for an R&D Food Scientist with a well-established food manufacturing client specializing in innovative food coloring, decorating solutions, and specialty bakery ingredients. This role will support new product development initiatives, formulation optimization, ingredient evaluation, and commercialization efforts for a growing product portfolio. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in food science, product development, and scale-up activities within a manufacturing environment.
Must-Have Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, or a related scientific discipline
  • 2-5+ years of experience in food product development, formulation, or R&D within a food manufacturing environment
  • Experience supporting product scale-up activities from laboratory development through commercial production
  • Working knowledge of food chemistry, ingredient functionality, and food safety regulations, including FDA and CFR Title 21 requirements
  • Experience creating technical documentation, specifications, formulation records, and test protocols
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing and optimizing food formulations, including bakery ingredients, icings, glazes, piping gels, bakery mixes, food colorings, or related products
  • Experience conducting ingredient research, competitive product evaluations, and trend analysis
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality systems, and commercialization activities within the food industry
  • Experience partnering with Sales, Marketing, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to support product launches and customer needs
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with formulation testing and analytical equipment

Pay Range: $85,000 - $95,000 annually
