As a remote web accessibility specialist, you'll often work closely with developers and designers through virtual meetings, code reviews, and shared documentation. Your role involves providing actionable feedback on design wireframes and code to ensure compliance with accessibility standards like WCAG. Effective communication and the use of collaboration tools (such as Slack, Jira, or GitHub) are essential to bridge gaps and integrate accessibility best practices throughout the development lifecycle. Regularly hosting training sessions and creating clear accessibility guidelines also help foster a more inclusive team culture.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Web Accessibility Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Web Accessibility Specialist, you need a solid understanding of web accessibility standards (such as WCAG), web development fundamentals (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), and experience with accessibility audits. Familiarity with tools like screen readers (JAWS, NVDA), automated testing platforms (axe, WAVE), and relevant certifications (such as IAAP CPACC) is highly beneficial. Strong communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail are vital soft skills for collaborating with remote teams and effectively identifying accessibility barriers. These competencies are crucial to ensure digital content is inclusive, legally compliant, and usable by people of all abilities.

What is a remote web accessibility specialist?

A remote web accessibility specialist is a professional who works from a remote location to ensure websites and digital content are accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. They evaluate websites for compliance with accessibility standards such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), suggest improvements, and may assist in implementing accessible design and code. Their work helps organizations make their digital content usable for people with visual, auditory, cognitive, or motor impairments, improving both usability and legal compliance.

Job description

Job Summary:
YO IT Consulting is a fast-growing AI Data Services company delivering training data for many of the world’s largest AI companies. They are seeking an HTML/CSS Quality Assurance Lead to oversee quality and consistency across HTML/CSS AI training projects, providing feedback on AI-generated code and ensuring adherence to quality standards.
Responsibilities:
• Quality monitoring: Spot-check HTML/CSS items, identify quality issues, provide feedback through DMs, and escalate recurring or critical issues.
• Code review: Evaluate AI-generated HTML/CSS snippets, layout implementations, accessibility fixes, responsive design solutions, debugging responses, and explanations for correctness and clarity.
• Trainer and QA communication: Update contributors on Discord about guideline changes, workflow updates, and HTML/CSS-specific review standards.
• Question handling: Respond to questions around semantic HTML, accessibility, ARIA, CSS specificity, layout behavior, flexbox/grid, responsive design, browser compatibility, and rubric interpretation.
• Trainer/QA activation management: DM inactive contributors, encourage activation, track follow-ups, and flag availability issues.
• Documentation: Create and maintain HTML/CSS style guides, trackers, FAQs, examples, honeypots, calibration tasks, and onboarding materials.
• Onboarding and training: Run onboarding/training calls for HTML/CSS contributors.
• Risk and accessibility review: Flag inaccessible, misleading, invalid, brittle, or non-production-ready frontend recommendations.
• Process improvement: Identify recurring quality gaps and build scalable QA processes.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, UX/UI, Information Technology, or equivalent professional frontend development experience.
• Strong grasp of English to follow guidelines, communicate with teams, and provide clear technical feedback.
• 3+ years of professional experience in HTML/CSS, frontend development, web accessibility, responsive design, UI implementation, code review, QA, or technical mentoring.
• Strong understanding of semantic HTML, forms, tables, ARIA basics, accessibility, CSS selectors, cascade/specificity, box model, flexbox, grid, positioning, responsive layouts, media queries, animations, and modern CSS features.
• Ability to evaluate HTML/CSS content against detailed rubrics and identify issues such as invalid markup, inaccessible components, poor responsiveness, layout bugs, overcomplicated CSS, specificity problems, browser compatibility issues, or incomplete explanations.
• Comfortable working in fast-moving remote environments using Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, GitHub, and project management systems.
• Highly organized and able to maintain style guides, trackers, FAQs, onboarding materials, honeypots, calibration tasks, and quality documentation.
Preferred:
• Familiarity with tools and workflows such as browser DevTools, Lighthouse, WCAG basics, Sass, Tailwind CSS, Bootstrap, CSS modules, design systems, Figma handoff, GitHub, CI/CD, and frontend build tools.
• Experience leading or supporting remote teams of trainers, annotators, reviewers, frontend engineers, designers, coding mentors, or QAs.
• Experience with AI training, data annotation, LLM evaluation, frontend code QA, accessibility review, or rubric-based code review.
