Remote Web Accessibility information

How does a remote web accessibility specialist typically collaborate with developers and designers to ensure accessible digital products?

As a remote web accessibility specialist, you'll often work closely with developers and designers through virtual meetings, code reviews, and shared documentation. Your role involves providing actionable feedback on design wireframes and code to ensure compliance with accessibility standards like WCAG. Effective communication and the use of collaboration tools (such as Slack, Jira, or GitHub) are essential to bridge gaps and integrate accessibility best practices throughout the development lifecycle. Regularly hosting training sessions and creating clear accessibility guidelines also help foster a more inclusive team culture.

While both roles collaborate with web teams, accessibility experts specialize in compliance and usability for all users, whereas developers focus on site functionality and design.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Web Accessibility Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Web Accessibility Specialist, you need a solid understanding of web accessibility standards (such as WCAG), web development fundamentals (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), and experience with accessibility audits. Familiarity with tools like screen readers (JAWS, NVDA), automated testing platforms (axe, WAVE), and relevant certifications (such as IAAP CPACC) is highly beneficial. Strong communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail are vital soft skills for collaborating with remote teams and effectively identifying accessibility barriers. These competencies are crucial to ensure digital content is inclusive, legally compliant, and usable by people of all abilities.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Member of Engineering (Interfaces, Full Stack) based in Netherlands.

As a Member of Engineering (Interfaces, Full Stack), you will design and build the products and interfaces that empower engineering and research teams working on cutting-edge AI technologies. In this highly collaborative role, you will own features end-to-end, from backend services and APIs to intuitive web interfaces that simplify complex technical workflows. You will work closely with researchers, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver scalable, high-impact solutions while iterating rapidly based on user feedback. This is an opportunity to contribute to greenfield projects, influence product direction, and help shape internal platforms in a fast-moving, remote-first environment focused on innovation and technical excellence.

Accountabilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end product features, covering backend services, APIs, and modern web interfaces.
  • Build intuitive interfaces that make complex technical processes, experiments, evaluations, and data workflows accessible and actionable for internal users.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and research teams to understand their workflows, identify bottlenecks, and deliver impactful product improvements.
  • Develop and maintain shared platform components and internal interface frameworks that enable other teams to contribute efficiently.
  • Rapidly prototype, test, and iterate on new features based on user feedback and evolving business needs.
  • Ensure high standards of quality across the technology stack, including performance, scalability, reliability, and usability.
  • Contribute to technical discussions, architectural decisions, and continuous improvements across the engineering organization.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a full-stack software engineer, building and delivering end-to-end web applications.
  • Strong proficiency with modern frontend technologies such as TypeScript and React, along with experience developing backend services using contemporary programming languages.
  • Ability to translate loosely defined problems into practical, user-focused solutions with minimal supervision.
  • Strong product mindset with the ability to understand user needs and make thoughtful technical and product decisions.
  • Experience building scalable, maintainable applications with clean architecture and high engineering standards.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary, remote teams.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, evolving environments where experimentation and continuous improvement are encouraged.
  • Interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning workflows, developer tools, or data-intensive applications is considered a strong advantage.
Benefits
  • Fully remote work with flexible working hours.
  • 37 days of combined vacation and public holidays each year.
  • Health insurance allowance for employees and eligible dependents.
  • 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave with flexible arrangements.
  • Annual allowances for well-being, professional development, and home office equipment.
  • Company-provided hardware and equipment.
  • Regular team gatherings and company off-sites to encourage collaboration.
  • Inclusive, people-first culture that values diversity, learning, and innovation.
