Job description

Cayenta, a division of Harris; is seeking a Vice President of Research & Development who brings a unique blend of business acumen and technical prowess.

This position calls for adept management and project management capabilities, a visionary approach to product development, financial insight, exceptional communication skills, and a deep understanding of the agile process.

As the VP of R&D, you'll be at the forefront of driving continuous innovation. Your responsibilities include enhancing existing products, seamlessly integrating newly acquired products into our corporate portfolio, and ensuring the smooth incorporation of third-party solutions with Harris' product offerings. This role is not just about managing processes; it's about leading and inspiring a diverse team of product managers, engineers, architects and more across multiple the US and Canada, working on various products.

Your role as a highly motivated self-starter and team player will be pivotal. With a focus on both team and client success, as well as the efficiency of business operations, you will guide and motivate a team of 60-70 individuals. Holding P&L responsibility and forecasting for your team, you'll not just lead but also empower, fostering an environment of innovation and excellence within Cayenta. This is a chance to make a significant impact in a role that challenges and rewards in equal measure.

This remote role welcomes candidates anywhere in Canada and the US. Travel is required as needed, approximately 25-50%. Candidates must hold a current, valid passport and be legally eligible to travel internationally. This includes either passport based visa exemption or possession of any required travel visas for entry into Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean.

Salary:

What your impact will be:

  • Translating business goals & product requirements into actionable development plans.
  • Ensuring that development projects are delivered on time and within budget while prioritizing progress over perfection, particularly on two door decisions.
  • Leading a multidisciplinary R&D organization spanning Product Management, Engineering, Cloud, Security & Compliance, and AI Operations.
  • Evolving the R&D organization through business transformation, leveraging artificial intelligence to drive innovation, efficiency, and long-term growth.
  • Strategic planning, direction and control of product development activities; as well as technical input into the overall business strategy.
  • Managing both onsite & offshore development teams.
  • Proactively nurturing and building channels of communication across business units to ensure collaboration and achievement of organizational goals.
  • Providing technical direction and guidance for all product development needs throughout the organization.
  • Communicating industry trends and emerging new technologies that can provide the organization with an advantage.
  • Managing strategic partnerships with vendors and suppliers.
  • Conceive, develop, and drive all critical product road map offerings to position the Cayenta division for long term success and minimize attrition risks from competitors who claim to have a more complete product.
  • Be an effective liaison between the Cayenta customer base and the internal Cayenta departments (i.e. Sales, Professional Services and Support Services).

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or relevant experience.
  • 10+ years of product and/or people management experience.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication; communicating clearly and comprehensively to senior executives and technical experts.
  • Organization and time-management skills, with a can-do attitude.
  • Excellent team player able to manage and prioritize work for self and staff.
  • Advanced analytical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills.
