Lead Strategic Communications Specialist - Remote
Job Summary
The Lead Strategic Communications Specialist provides senior-level leadership in developing, executing, and managing comprehensive communication strategies that support organizational goals, change initiatives, and stakeholder engagement. This role leads the creation of high-quality content across digital, print, and multimedia channels while ensuring alignment with organizational values, tone, brand identity, and strategic messaging. The specialist collaborates closely with authors, technical experts, and leadership to refine complex scientific and technical concepts into accessible, compelling communications products. This position oversees public relations activities, media interactions, and information dissemination while guiding high-performing communications teams to deliver consistent, impactful messaging.
Minimum Qualifications (Required)
  • Bachelor's degree with 10 years of professional experience, including at least 8 years managing communication strategy, tactics, and messaging design.
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Planning and executing organizational communications strategies
    • Editing and producing AP-style narrative and multimedia communication products
    • Leading and developing high-performing communications teams
  • Strong change leadership skills, with the ability to:
    • Oversee the design and delivery of digital, print, and multimedia content
    • Ensure alignment with organizational values, tone, and visual identity standards
  • Proven experience meeting with authors, subject-matter experts, and team stakeholders to:
    • Review communication materials
    • Compile, reconcile, and resolve conflicting edits
    • Deliver final, publication-ready products
  • Ability to translate complex scientific and technical concepts into clear, accessible language for general audiences.
  • Experience managing public relations and external communications activities, including:
    • Information output
    • Press and media inquiries
    • Social media oversight
    • Advertising content
    • Development of strategic communication products
