What is a Remote Solutions Engineer job?

A Remote Solutions Engineer is a technical professional who helps customers understand, implement, and optimize a company's products or services, typically in a pre-sales or post-sales capacity. They work remotely to assess client needs, provide technical demonstrations, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with sales and engineering teams. Their role often requires a mix of technical expertise, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities to ensure customer success.

What are the primary responsibilities of a Remote Solutions Engineer on a daily basis?

A Remote Solutions Engineer typically spends their days designing technical solutions, troubleshooting client issues, and collaborating with both internal teams and clients via video calls, chat, or emails. Responsibilities often include gathering requirements, developing and implementing architectures, supporting technical pre-sales processes, and providing ongoing support and optimization for deployed solutions. Because the role is remote, strong self-management and proactive communication are essential, and most interaction happens in a virtual team environment. This allows for flexibility, but also requires a high degree of autonomy and accountability to ensure project milestones and customer satisfaction are consistently achieved.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Solutions Engineer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Solutions Engineer, you need strong technical expertise in IT systems, software development, and solutions architecture, typically backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. Experience with cloud platforms (like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), networking tools, and relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or CompTIA Network+ are highly valued. Exceptional communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage projects independently are crucial soft skills for this remote role. These competencies ensure you can effectively design, implement, and support tailored solutions for clients while collaborating with distributed teams and meeting business objectives.

Job description

About Us

Selector is building an operational intelligence platform for digital infrastructure. By adopting an AI/ML-based analytics approach, the platform provides actionable multi-dimensional insights to network, cloud, and application operators. It enables operations teams to meet their KPIs through seamless collaboration, search-driven conversational user experience, and automated data engineering pipelines.

Our solutions are used by leading Telecoms, Media Providers, Retail, and Professional Sports organizations across the world. Our novel approach and rapidly expanding footprint put us in the unique position for continued growth to become a category leader.

Selector offers a discretionary PTO policy, health insurance, 401k, the opportunity for a bonus, and more.

Work Location
This is a fully onsite role based at our headquarters in Santa Clara, CA. Candidates must be located in or willing to relocate to the Bay Area. Remote and hybrid arrangements are not available for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical resource on Selector's operational analytics solution for networks, applications, and security workflows.
  • Take a hands-on role in the integration of Selector's platform to meet complex customer requirements, contributing feature-level Python code and maintaining scripts and automation workflows on a daily basis.
  • Lead or co-lead deployments of Selector's solution at customer sites, including gathering and translating data, workflow, and analytics requirements.
  • Ensure customers are thoroughly enabled for use, advanced understanding, and self-serve extensions of Selector's capabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with the sales team and partners for pre-sales activities, including technical demos and solution scoping.
  • Own design, development, and execution plans for POC engagements and drive them through to successful completion.
  • Act as a voice of the customer internally - contributing well-defined product enhancement proposals and participating in customer review cycles.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) to accelerate integration work, automate repetitive tasks, and improve the quality and speed of technical deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
3-6 years of professional experience in a solutions engineering, systems engineering, or technical customer-facing role.
  • Strong Python coding proficiency with a comfort level for writing and debugging code daily as a core part of the job - this is not an occasional scripting role.
  • Active use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or OpenAI Codex as part of your everyday development workflow.
  • Hands-on experience with Ansible and/or Go.
  • Working experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, and Azure.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and YAML-based configurations.
  • Proficiency in designing and executing SQL queries to extract, validate, and analyze data; comfortable working in Jupyter notebooks.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for varied audiences.
  • Meaningful experience with networking technologies (e.g., Data Center, WAN, SD-WAN, WiFi, DNS/DHCP, Load Balancing).
  • Familiarity with network analytics tooling and operational monitoring workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple customer engagements simultaneously and drive projects to completion.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for customer-facing work - you should be energized by working directly with operators and engineering teams, not just the technical work itself.

Compensation

The salary for this role is $140,000 - $170,000. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including prior experience, and may vary from the amount listed.
