Remote Sales Development Representative Internship information

What is a remote sales development representative internship?

A Remote Sales Development Representative (SDR) Internship is a temporary, entry-level position where interns work from home to help companies identify and qualify potential sales leads. Interns typically reach out to prospects via email, phone, or social media to generate interest in a company's products or services. The goal is to set up meetings or demonstrations for senior sales staff, helping the business grow its customer base. This internship provides valuable experience in sales, communication, and remote work environments, making it a great starting point for a career in sales.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote sales development representative intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Sales Development Representative Intern, you need strong communication skills, basic sales knowledge, and a bachelor’s degree or progress toward one in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software like Salesforce, as well as proficiency in email and video conferencing tools, is highly valued. Standout candidates possess resilience, self-motivation, and the ability to build rapport quickly, even in virtual settings. These skills and qualities are essential for effectively generating leads, nurturing client relationships, and contributing to team sales goals in a remote environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote sales development representative interns, and how can they overcome them?

Remote Sales Development Representative (SDR) Interns often face challenges such as staying motivated without in-person supervision, managing time effectively across different time zones, and building rapport with prospects virtually. Overcoming these challenges involves setting clear daily goals, utilizing digital tools for communication and organization, and proactively seeking feedback from mentors or team leads. Regular virtual check-ins and participation in team meetings also help interns stay connected and aligned with the team's objectives.

Job description

Description
Who are we?
Proud to be named the #6 Best Place to Work in San Diego by the San Diego Business Journal!
Workiz is the leading SaaS platform for field service teams, trusted by over 120,000 pros. We help real, hard working people run and grow their businesses, with an end-to-end solution that enables them to schedule jobs, dispatch, invoice, track performance, get paid in the field, plus so much more - all in one place!
We're on a mission to revolutionize our industry by "automating everything but holding the wrench", providing our users with smart, AI-powered tools that will replace time consuming tasks, generate more revenue, and provide peace of mind, freeing our users to focus on building their small business into an empire.
Who are you?
You're a strategic and adaptable communicator, you build strong relationships and embody an entrepreneurial spirit and process-driven mindset.
You have a strong understanding of qualification processes and know how to motivate and inspire potential customers to schedule and show up to meetings with AEs. You are a quick learner and love to receive coaching and apply it immediately. You are well organized and know how to prioritize your day to handle a full workload. You enjoy a fast-paced, start-up environment and like to contribute your feedback to make a difference.
What You'll Do
  • Own top-of-funnel engagement for inbound demo requests, demo confirmation leads, and trial sign-ups through high-quality calls, emails, and messaging that drive curiosity and qualification.
  • Convert free-use and trial users into sales-ready opportunities by understanding their workflows, challenges, and evaluation stage.
  • Work partner-sourced leads through outbound calling, and take on light prospecting and qualification to supplement inbound volume.
  • Re-engage nurtured, closed-lost, and churned accounts with tailored outreach that sparks new interest.
  • Maintain clean, actionable CRM notes in HubSpot - including detailed Sales Qualification Notes (pain points, team size, current tools, job volume, goals) - that give GTM leadership insight into customer trends and friction points, and give AEs a clean handoff for every meeting.
  • Recover pipeline by actively following up on no-shows and warm leads to quickly reschedule meetings.
  • Collaborate with Account Executives on discovery, handoff, and pipeline strategies - including joining AE calls to learn and grow.
  • Provide feedback on messaging, sequences, and trial experience to continuously improve conversion.
  • Support instant meeting creation when prospects and AEs are mutually available, improving speed-to-lead.

This is a hybrid role working Tues, Wed and Thurs in our San Diego office and Mon and Fri working remote.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 1-2 years of SDR/BDR or phone-based sales experience with a proven record of hitting targets.
  • Strong cold-calling foundation - comfortable making 100+ calls/day and driving real conversations.
  • CRM experience (HubSpot preferred) with disciplined, clean, and structured note-taking.
  • Highly coachable, open to feedback, and able to implement improvements quickly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with clear, concise follow-up and effective discovery.
  • Comfort operating in a KPI-driven environment with clear expectations around activity and pipeline creation.
  • Ability to quickly understand prospect workflows and pain points to make fast, high-quality qualification decisions.
  • Bias for action - fast follow-up, proactive outreach, and high urgency in managing inbound/trial leads.
  • Ability to work effectively with AEs and support smooth handoffs that drive pipeline momentum.
  • Comfort in a fast-paced SaaS or startup environment with frequent iteration and evolving processes.

Bonus Points:
1. Prior work in trial-to-paid or PLG-style motions, converting users who are already inside the product.
2. Background selling to SMB or field-service industries (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, locksmith, construction, etc.).
