How much do remote robotics jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 18, 2026, the average yearly pay for remote robotics in the United States is $96,000.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $90,000.00 and $102,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a Remote Robotics job?

A Remote Robotics job involves designing, programming, monitoring, or maintaining robotic systems from a remote location. This can include teleoperating robots, developing automation software, or troubleshooting robotic hardware via cloud-based platforms. Remote robotics professionals work in industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, aerospace, and logistics. These roles often require expertise in robotics engineering, programming, and network communications. Advances in AI and IoT have made remote robotics more accessible and crucial for automation and efficiency.

Will AI replace robotics engineer?

AI is expected to augment the work of robotics engineers by automating certain tasks such as programming, data analysis, and system optimization. However, robotics engineers will continue to be essential for designing, building, and maintaining complex robotic systems that require human oversight, creativity, and problem-solving skills. The role is likely to evolve rather than be fully replaced by AI.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals in Remote Robotics roles?

One of the most common challenges in Remote Robotics is troubleshooting hardware and software issues without direct, on-site access, which requires strong analytical and remote diagnostic skills. Professionals in this field often navigate time zone differences and coordinate closely with local technical staff or end users to resolve issues quickly. Effective communication and clear documentation become critical to ensure remote instructions are followed accurately. Additionally, staying up-to-date with evolving technologies and security protocols is essential for maintaining optimal system performance and data safety.

What engineering jobs pay $500,000?

Senior engineering roles such as aerospace, petroleum, and software engineering can reach or exceed $500,000 annually, especially with experience, bonuses, and stock options. These positions often require advanced skills, leadership responsibilities, and sometimes specialized certifications or advanced degrees.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Robotics position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Remote Robotics, you need a strong foundation in robotics engineering, computer programming (especially Python, C++, or ROS), and experience with remote system monitoring and troubleshooting. Familiarity with teleoperation platforms, cloud-based control systems, and remote diagnostics tools is essential, with relevant certifications such as CSWA or ROS Developer often preferred. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for collaborating across distributed teams. These skills ensure you can efficiently design, monitor, and maintain robotic systems from a distance while collaborating with colleagues and clients in dynamic environments.

Which 5 jobs will survive AI?

Remote robotics jobs such as robotics engineers, automation specialists, and systems integrators are likely to persist as they require complex problem-solving, hands-on skills, and adaptability that AI cannot fully replicate. These roles often involve designing, maintaining, and improving robotic systems, which depend on advanced technical knowledge, programming skills, and physical interaction. Continuous learning and expertise in tools like CAD, programming languages, and control systems are essential for long-term employment in this field.

Can a robotics engineer work remotely?

Robotics engineers can often work remotely, especially in roles focused on software development, simulation, and design, which require computer-based tasks. However, positions that involve hardware testing, assembly, or maintenance may require on-site presence. Remote work availability depends on the employer and specific job responsibilities.

Job description

Agility's commercially deployed humanoids operate alongside teams in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and distribution centers—tackling physically demanding and repetitive tasks while enabling workers to focus on higher-value work. With industry-leading safety standards and years of proven deployment data, we're pioneering a new era of automation that enhances human potential.

About the Role

Our software team is growing and we are looking for talented engineers to join our agile, world-class team. Our Robot Platform team is the foundational core of our product, dedicated to providing a robust, reliable, and secure software substrate that accelerates all robot feature development. We own the critical layers that all other software teams build upon: operating system images, bootloaders, kernels, device drivers, and filesystems.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a key contributor to the Robot Platform team, focusing on the ownership and delivery of mission-critical operating system components. You will work within established architectural patterns to build and maintain the service management (systemd, k3s) and update mechanisms that power our robots. This role offers the opportunity to tackle complex technical challenges, from optimizing kernel performance to ensuring secure installation and updating mechanisms on our physical systems in the field.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development & Execution:

  • Operating System Development: Build and maintain the operating system images used on robots and edge devices, including the bootloader, kernel, device drivers, filesystems, and system libraries.
  • System Orchestration & Security: Take ownership of technical projects within the robot platform stack, including:
    • Service management and orchestration systems using systemd and k3s.
    • Secure local and remote service access mechanisms.
    • Robust installation and over-the-air (OTA) software update mechanisms.
    • Provisioning and commissioning scripts for core device environments.
  • Code Quality & Reliability: Write clean and maintainable code, while contributing to thorough code reviews and automated testing suites.
  • Debugging & Troubleshooting: Actively troubleshoot complex low-level issues across the robot software stack, focusing on OS-level bugs and hardware-software integration challenges.

Team Collaboration:

  • Cross-functional Support: Collaborate with manufacturing, test, and robot software engineers to implement the features and interfaces they need to succeed.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the evolution of our developer tooling and internal best practices to improve team velocity and software quality.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional experience with OS image generation, Linux kernel development, and embedded Linux environments.
  • Strong background in implementing complex features within large-scale software systems, preferably in robotics or autonomous systems.
  • Proficiency in modern Python and systems programming on Linux.
  • Experience with Linux kernel development, bootloaders, device drivers, and service orchestration using systemd and similar service management systems.
  • Ability to take high-level project requirements and translate them into efficient, well-tested code.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working within a fast-paced agile team.
Bonus Qualifications
  • Robotics industry experience
  • Experience using Kubernetes
  • Bazel and similar build systems
  • Hardware-in-the-loop testing
  • Nvidia driver and library management
Why This Role?
  • Impactful Work: Everything you build will be used by engineers across the company every day.
  • Physical Impact: Your software decisions directly affect real robots operating in dynamic environments.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with robotics, cloud platform, and solutions engineers on mission-critical workflows.
  • Engineering Culture: Remote-friendly with a strong emphasis on developer experience, mentorship, and technical excellence.
