Job description

Territory Sales Engineer

Territory: Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa

Location: Remote / field-based; residence within the territory

Department: Sales

Reports to: Vice President Sales amp; Marketing

FLSA Classification: Exempt

About Star Plastics

Star Plastics develops and manufactures custom engineered thermoplastic and elastomeric compounds for demanding applications. We partner with processors, molders, OEMs, distributors, and brand owners to solve material, processing, supply-chain, sustainability, and performance challenges. Our success is built on technical capability, operational reliability, responsive service, and a commitment to doing what is right for the customer and for our business. We seek sales professionals who create durable value through preparation, curiosity, accountability, and collaboration.

The Opportunity

The Territory Sales Engineer will own commercial growth and customer development across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. This is a consultative, technical sales role for a person who can earn credibility with processors, molders, OEMs, and distribution partners; uncover meaningful business problems; and align Star Plastics’ material technologies and services to solve them. The successful candidate will balance new-business development with the thoughtful expansion of existing strategic relationships. They will be expected to build a focused territory plan, develop a strong opportunity pipeline, manage customer commitments with integrity, and work closely with Star Plastics’ technical, operations, quality, customer-service, and leadership teams to deliver on our promises.

What You’ll Do
  • Generate revenue
  • Develop and execute a territory growth plan for Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa, prioritizing strategic markets, applications, accounts, and opportunities that fit Star Plastics’ capabilities.
  • Build trusted relationships with decision-makers and influencers at OEMs, molders, processors, distributors, and other value-chain partners.
  • Lead a disciplined sales process from prospecting and qualification through technical evaluation, sampling, commercialization, and account expansion.
  • Identify customer needs through active listening and thorough discovery, then translate voice-of-customer insights into clear internal actions.
  • Sell solutions based on performance, processing, supply security, service, sustainability, and total customer value.
  • Partner with technical and product-development teams to position materials for new programs, specifications, conversions, and application opportunities.
  • Develop business in new applications and end markets that align with Star Plastics’ strategic direction.
  • Provide clear market intelligence on customers, competitors, applications, pricing dynamics, supply conditions, and emerging opportunities.
  • Represent Star Plastics professionally at customer visits, industry events, and trade shows.
What Success Looks Like
  • You develop a healthy, qualified pipeline with clear strategic fit and realistic paths to revenue growth.
  • Customers view you as a credible, responsive business partner who understands both their technical and commercial priorities.
  • You bring opportunities forward early, communicate candidly, and coordinate internal resources effectively.
  • You protect margin and create value by selling the right solution for the application.
  • You build sustainable account relationships that produce repeat business, specification wins, and profitable growth.
Qualifications
  • Five or more years of successful outside sales, business development, technical sales, or account-management experience in plastics, engineered materials, resin distribution, compounding, molding, or a related industrial market in the Upper Midwest Territory.
  • Experience selling or supporting engineering thermoplastics and compounds; familiarity with materials such as PC, ABS, PC/ABS, PA, PBT, PP, TPE/TPV, or similar materials.
  • Ability to engage credibly with both commercial and technical customer stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success developing new business while retaining and growing existing customer relationships.
  • Strong consultative selling, account-planning, prospecting, negotiation, communication, relationship, and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to assess opportunity quality, prioritize effectively, and manage a territory with sound commercial judgment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts into practical customer value.
  • Self-directed, well organized, collaborative, and accountable.
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa, with periodic travel to Star Plastics facilities and industry events.

Star Plastics is an equal opportunity employer. We consider qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable law.
