Position Summary

Mason Dixon Auto Auction is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Remote Payroll Assistant to support the payroll department by ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time. The ideal candidate is highly organized, maintains strict confidentiality, and possesses strong numerical and administrative skills. This role works closely with Human Resources, Accounting, and management to process payroll, maintain employee records, and ensure compliance with applicable payroll laws and company policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with processing weekly, bi-weekly, or semi-monthly payroll for employees.
  • Review employee timesheets for accuracy and resolve discrepancies with supervisors.
  • Enter and maintain payroll information, including new hires, terminations, pay rate changes, deductions, and direct deposit information.
  • Verify overtime, bonuses, commissions, and other compensation adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and employee files while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries regarding wages, taxes, deductions, and timekeeping.
  • Prepare payroll reports for management, accounting, and auditing purposes.
  • Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation and payroll reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Human Resources and Accounting teams to maintain accurate employee and payroll records.
  • Support payroll audits and assist with documentation requests.
  • Perform additional administrative and payroll-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous payroll, accounting, bookkeeping, or administrative experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with payroll software such as ADP, Paychex, QuickBooks Payroll, or similar systems is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while meeting deadlines.
