Job description

The Opportunity:

A dynamic, boutique immigration law firm in Newark, New Jersey is seeking an experienced Immigration Paralegal with strong VAWA experience for a long-term temporary assignment. This hybrid role requires candidates to work onsite every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and remotely on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The office is conveniently accessible by public transportation. Candidates must be reliable and able to consistently be present in the office on required days. The hourly pay rate for this position is $30โ€“$40 per hour, depending on experience.

Primary Duties:

This is a high-volume practice with a significant focus on VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) cases, requiring strong verbal and written communication skills. The Immigration Paralegal will work closely with clients, often in sensitive situations; prepare detailed legal documents, and support case management from intake through filing. The role demands discretion, compassion, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Additional duties include the following:

  • Prepare and assemble VAWA (I-360/I-485) petitions, including gathering supporting documentation and drafting detailed affidavits.
  • Handle family-based immigration cases, including I-130/I-485 and I-751 (removal of conditions).
  • Draft affidavits, cover letters, and legal correspondence, particularly for VAWA submissions.
  • Manage and track deadlines, including maintaining the firmโ€™s immigration court calendar.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, including those in sensitive or urgent circumstances.
  • Handle telephone inquiries and client follow-ups.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Assist with filings before immigration court and government agencies.
  • Maintain accurate records using case management systems.

Requirements:

  • Hands-on experience preparing VAWA cases (I-360/I-485) is required
  • Experience with family-based immigration cases (I-130/I-485, I-751 removal of conditions)
  • Experience with consular processing and CEAC
  • Familiarity with EOIR and immigration court procedures, including ECAS
  • Proficiency with Cerenade (E-immigration)
  • Strong calendaring, organization, and deadline management skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive client matters with professionalism and discretion
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Google Workspace (G Suite), especially calendaring
  • Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work independently
