What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote HITRUST Compliance Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote HITRUST Compliance Specialist, you need a deep understanding of information security, risk management, and regulatory compliance, often supported by relevant degrees and HITRUST or cybersecurity certifications. Familiarity with frameworks like HITRUST CSF, GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) tools, and audit management systems is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and clear communication are crucial soft skills for interpreting requirements and guiding organizations through compliance processes. These skills ensure accurate risk assessments, effective compliance strategies, and successful HITRUST certification in a remote work environment.

What is the difference between Remote Hitrust vs Remote HIPAA Compliance Specialist?

Remote Hitrust professionals focus on implementing and managing HITRUST CSF frameworks, often requiring cybersecurity and compliance certifications. Remote HIPAA Compliance Specialists primarily ensure healthcare organizations meet HIPAA standards, with certifications centered on HIPAA regulations. Both roles are remote and serve the healthcare industry, but Hitrust roles tend to involve broader cybersecurity frameworks, while HIPAA specialists focus specifically on privacy and security rules.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in a remote HITRUST compliance role?

Professionals in remote HITRUST compliance roles often encounter challenges such as effectively coordinating with cross-functional teams spread across different locations and time zones. They must ensure clear communication and collaboration to gather required documentation and evidence for HITRUST assessments. Additionally, staying up to date with changing HITRUST standards and maintaining secure data practices while working remotely can be demanding. However, strong organizational skills and proactive use of collaboration tools can help overcome these challenges.

What is a Remote HITRUST professional?

A Remote HITRUST professional is someone who specializes in helping organizations achieve and maintain HITRUST certification, often while working from a remote location. HITRUST (Health Information Trust Alliance) certification is a widely recognized standard for managing data protection and compliance, particularly in the healthcare sector. These professionals guide companies through the complex process of meeting HITRUST requirements, conducting assessments, and ensuring ongoing compliance. Their work typically involves risk assessments, policy development, and collaboration with various teams, all facilitated through digital communication tools.

Senior Back-End Engineer (6-Month Contract)

Youtopia Marketplace - Remote (U.S.)
*Must be able to work core hours of 9-3:30 Mountain Time Zone

At Youtopia Marketplace, we're engineering the future of human health and longevity through Precision Nourishment Automation. Our tribe is grounded in love, driven by purpose, and unified by the belief that vibrant health should be effortless and available to everyone.

Getting healthy today is almost impossible. Confusing. Overwhelming. Fragmented.

Youtopia is ending that.

At Youtopia, we use diagnostic testing, advanced nutrient modeling, and an AI-driven meal-matching engine to determine each person's exact nutrient needs-and flawlessly match those needs with toxin-free, locally made, chef-crafted meals.

It's personalized nutrition, automated.
We are preparing for one of the most ambitious launches in consumer health history-and we're assembling a world-class engineering team to build the secure, intelligent, scalable platform behind it.

If you're a high-impact Senior Back-End Engineer who wants to work with modern technology, own critical systems, and directly improve millions of lives, this is your opportunity.

Position Overview

We're looking for a Senior Back-End Engineer for a 6-month contract to help build the core cloud services, APIs, microservices, and data workflows that power Youtopia's precision nourishment automation platform.

You will build on top of the latest Azure ecosystem, using .NET 10, distributed event systems, secure data pipelines, and healthcare-grade architecture patterns. You'll partner closely with engineering leadership to lay the foundation for a system that must scale safely, securely, and intelligently to eventually support tens of millions of users.

This is not a maintenance role.

This is greenfield product engineering at a mission-driven startup where the work you ship will go directly into production and directly impact lives.

What You Will Own

Back-End Architecture & Development

  • Build modern, cloud-native backend services using .NET 10 and C#
  • Design and develop robust APIs, microservices, and domain-driven components
  • Implement event-driven and distributed systems for mission-critical workflows
  • Optimize services for performance, reliability, scalability, and fault tolerance

Cloud Engineering (Azure)

  • Implement services using Azure Functions, API Management, Service Bus/Event Grid, Cosmos DB, SQL, Key Vault, and distributed caching
  • Contribute to designing secure, multi-tenant architectures
  • Improve end-to-end monitoring, telemetry, and observability

Security & Healthcare-Grade Development

  • Implement secure-by-default patterns suitable for HIPAA/HITRUST workloads
  • Work with PHI/PII data handling standards, encryption, auditing, and compliance
  • Partner with the compliance team to ensure systems support audit-readiness

Data & Integration Engineering

  • Build scalable data pipelines and workflows that power nutrient modeling, diagnostics, and personalization
  • Integrate with labs, diagnostic systems, wearables, EHRs (FHIR/HL7), and third-party health APIs
  • Contribute to structuring Youtopia's long-term health data platform and data lake

Engineering Excellence & Collaboration

  • Work closely with Front-End, Platform, DevOps, Compliance, and Product teams
  • Participate in architecture reviews and drive engineering best practices
  • Ship high-quality code quickly in a fast-moving, mission-driven environment

Who You Are

You are a builder at heart. A senior-level engineer who:

  • Thrives in modern .NET / Azure ecosystems
  • Loves solving complex backend engineering problems
  • Wants to build meaningful technology that improves real lives
  • Is energized by autonomy, craftsmanship, and rapid iteration
  • Excels in high-performance teams with high expectations
  • Gets excited about building systems intended for massive scale

Qualifications

Required

  • 7+ years professional experience in back-end engineering in HIPAA applications
  • Deep expertise in C# and .NET 8+
  • Strong experience with Azure cloud services
  • Proven experience designing and implementing microservices
  • Experience with distributed or event-driven architectures
  • Solid understanding of relational database design
  • Strong understanding of application security and modern API best practices
  • Ability to self-organize and take ownership in ambiguous environments
  • High-scale or real-time system architecture

Bonus / "Superpower" Skills

  • Extensive Healthcare experience (HIPAA/HITRUST, FHIR, HL7, labs, PHI workflows) building new applications
  • Wearable integrations, device data ingestion, or sensor data APIs
  • Data lakes, analytics pipelines, or ML integration patterns
  • Experience deploying services in highly regulated environments

If you have most but not all qualifications, we still encourage you to apply.

Location

  • Remote within the United States
