Job description

Health Educator

Help Older Adults Live Healthier, More Independent Lives

At JABA, we believe healthy aging is about more than healthcare-it's about empowering older adults with the knowledge, resources, and confidence to live their best lives. We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate, and innovative Health Educator to lead evidence-based health and wellness programming throughout our service area.

If you're passionate about community health, enjoy teaching and coaching others, and want to make a meaningful impact every day, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do

As JABA's Health Educator, you'll be the driving force behind health promotion and wellness initiatives that help older adults improve their health, maintain independence, and stay connected to their communities.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and deliver engaging health education workshops and presentations.
  • Provide individual health coaching and support to older adults.
  • Lead evidence-based programs focused on chronic disease management, nutrition, physical activity, medication management, and healthy aging.
  • Build and expand Active Living Every Day (ALED) programming across JABA centers.
  • Train and support Community Center staff in implementing health and wellness initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Aging Services Coordinators and other JABA teams to connect participants with needed resources and services.
  • Measure program outcomes and use data to continuously improve services.
  • Build relationships with community partners and healthcare organizations.
  • Create an annual health education plan that drives meaningful results for older adults throughout our region.

Why You'll Love This Position

This is not a desk-only job.

One day you may be leading a wellness workshop at a community center. The next, you'll be coaching an older adult on managing a chronic condition, training staff on a new evidence-based program, or developing innovative ways to improve community health outcomes.

You'll have the opportunity to make a direct impact on the lives of older adults while helping shape the future of health and wellness programming at JABA.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking someone who is:

  • Passionate about healthy aging and community wellness.
  • Comfortable presenting to groups and engaging diverse audiences.
  • Skilled at building relationships and motivating others.
  • Organized, data-driven, and able to manage multiple projects.
  • Adaptable, collaborative, and eager to learn.
  • Committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and person-centered services.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Community Health, Nutrition, Gerontology, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field.
  • Experience in health education, community health, aging services, wellness programming, human services, or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout JABA's service area.

Preferred

  • Community Health Worker certification.
  • Experience facilitating evidence-based health promotion programs.
  • Experience training or supervising staff.

Work Environment

This full-time position is primarily based out of JABA's Charlottesville office with regular travel to community centers and program locations throughout Planning District 10. Occasional remote work opportunities may be available following successful completion of the introductory period.

Benefits of Working at JABA

At JABA, you'll join a mission-driven organization dedicated to helping people age with dignity, independence, and purpose. Our team members enjoy meaningful work, supportive colleagues, opportunities for professional growth, and the satisfaction of making a difference every day.

If you're ready to inspire healthier lives and strengthen our communities, apply today!
