What are some unique challenges Remote Family Mediators face compared to in-person mediators?

Remote Family Mediators often encounter challenges such as building rapport and trust with clients through a screen, managing technical issues, and ensuring confidentiality in virtual settings. Facilitating open and effective communication can be more complex when reading body language and emotional cues is limited. However, remote mediation also offers flexibility and accessibility for clients, which can lead to increased participation and convenience. Mediators must be adept at using online platforms and employ clear communication strategies to overcome these challenges.

What is a Remote Family Mediator?

A Remote Family Mediator is a trained professional who helps families resolve conflicts and disputes, such as divorce, child custody, or parenting agreements, using online platforms or phone calls instead of meeting in person. They act as a neutral third party to facilitate communication and negotiation between family members. The goal is to help the parties reach mutually agreeable solutions in a confidential and less adversarial manner than court proceedings. Remote mediation offers flexibility and accessibility, making it easier for participants to attend sessions from different locations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Family Mediator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Family Mediator, you need a background in conflict resolution, family law knowledge, and mediation certification or relevant training. Familiarity with secure video conferencing platforms, document-sharing tools, and case management systems is essential. Job description

Description
At Brighter Day Law, we believe attorneys should not have to choose between meaningful work, fair compensation, and a sustainable life outside the office.
We have intentionally built a firm where preparation replaces chaos, expectations are clearly defined, and professionalism is consistent rather than performative.
We Offer:
  • One of the lowest minimum billing expectations in the market, averaging approximately 1,000 billable hours per year
  • Competitive base compensation paired with a transparent, performance-based bonus structure
  • Clearly defined standards supported by systems and ongoing coaching
  • A mission-driven culture focused on long-term outcomes for families

We are open to salaried, part-time, or full-time arrangements, as well as hybrid or remote work following onboarding for attorneys who can reliably attend in-person hearings and trials in Colorado.
We are seeking a Colorado-licensed attorney with at least three years of litigation experience. Family law experience is strongly preferred. Experience in estate planning and probate is a valued addition, as this role will include a blended caseload over time.
In this role, you will manage primarily family law matters from initial consultation through resolution, while also supporting estate planning and probate cases as assigned. Our approach emphasizes thoughtful resolution when possible and thorough preparation for court when necessary.
This position is well-suited for an attorney who values structure, sound judgment, and helping clients move forward with clarity rather than conflict.
After onboarding, attorneys may work remotely or in a hybrid capacity, provided they can reliably attend assigned in-person hearings, mediations, and trials in Colorado. Candidates located in Colorado Springs, Pueblo, or within a reasonable travel distance to assigned courts are encouraged to apply.
Compensation
Base compensation ranges from $95,000 to $130,000 annually, depending on experience. Attorneys also participate in a transparent, performance-based bonus structure. Total annual compensation typically ranges from approximately $102,000 to $157,000+, depending on quarterly collected fee receipts.
Bonuses are paid quarterly and are calculated based on collected fees. We will walk through the formula and provide a real example during the interview process.
We Also Provide:
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Generous paid time off
  • 401(k) with employer contributions
  • CLE and professional development support
  • Disability and life insurance

Specific compensation details will be provided during the offer process.
How to Apply
If this opportunity reflects how you want to practice law, we encourage you to apply.
Please submit:
  • Resume and cover letter: An up-to-date resume along with a thoughtful cover letter explaining your interest in the role and how your experience aligns with the position
  • References: A list of professional references we may contact
  • Optional materials: Writing sample, litigation brief, or other relevant work product (optional but appreciated)
  • We review each application carefully and will contact selected candidates to schedule interviews

Responsibilities
• Manage cases from start to finish: Oversee a caseload of primarily family law matters, along with estate planning and probate cases as assigned, from intake through resolution.
• Client communication: Maintain consistent, professional communication so clients understand their options, timelines, and next steps.
• Client counseling and strategy: Provide sound legal advice grounded in careful review of facts, financial records, and applicable law.
• Settlement and litigation preparation: Pursue reasonable resolution where appropriate, while preparing cases thoroughly for hearing or trial when necessary.
• Court and mediation appearances: Represent clients in mediations, hearings, and trials with preparation and composure.
• Document drafting: Prepare pleadings, agreements, orders, wills, and related documents accurately and on time.
• Case management: Monitor deadlines, maintain organized files, and comply with court and firm requirements.
• Team collaboration: Work closely with support staff to ensure proactive, efficient case management.
• Professional conduct: Demonstrate integrity, steadiness, and sound judgment in all interactions.
Qualifications
• Licensed to practice in Colorado.
• Minimum three years of litigation experience, family law strongly preferred.
• Estate planning and/or probate experience preferred.
• Strong organizational and case management skills.
• Professional presence and alignment with firm systems and values.
