Job description

Company Description:
Clarkston Legal is hiring a Legal Assistant to provide administrative case support to family law attorneys handling matters such as divorce, custody, child support, and spousal support cases. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and empathy. Prior experience is required for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Client Communication:
    • Schedule consultations and maintain attorney calendars.
    • Communicate case updates and gather necessary information.
  • Document Preparation & Management:
    • Organize legal documents, including notices, pleadings, motions, affidavits, and correspondence.
    • Prepare and file court documents (e-filing and in-person).
    • Maintain organized case files (electronic) and convert paper documents into electronically stored files.
  • Case Support:
    • Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including exhibits and witness lists.
    • Track litigation deadlines and ensure timely filings.
    • Coordinate discovery responses and document production.
  • Court & Filing Procedures
    • File documents with local courts in compliance with rules and deadlines.
    • Monitor case status and update internal systems.
    • Prepare hearing and mediation materials.

Administrative Duties:
  • Perform general office duties (answering phones, scanning, copying, data entry).
  • Manage ever-changing attorney calendars, appointments, and deadlines.

Key Skills & Competencies:
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
  • Discretion and confidentiality with sensitive matters.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a client service mindset.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal case management software (Clio).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • close attention to detail and organizational ability.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Preferred Experience:
  • 2+ Years of experience with divorce, custody, and support cases.
  • Familiarity with e-filing systems (state-specific).
  • Experience working in a law firm or legal department.
  • Knowledge of court procedures and legal terminology.

Salary Range: $50,000-$60,000
