What is a Remote EMR Implementation specialist?

A Remote EMR Implementation specialist is a professional responsible for setting up and integrating Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems for healthcare organizations, often working entirely remotely. Their duties include configuring software, migrating patient data, training staff, and providing ongoing support to ensure a smooth transition to digital records. They collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to customize the system according to the organization's workflow. Working remotely, they leverage virtual tools and support channels to facilitate the implementation process. This role requires strong technical, communication, and project management skills.

What are some common challenges faced when implementing EMR systems remotely, and how can they be addressed?

Remote EMR Implementation professionals often encounter challenges such as coordinating with multiple stakeholders across locations, ensuring effective training for end-users, and troubleshooting technical issues without physical presence. To address these, clear communication protocols, robust virtual training sessions, and comprehensive support documentation are essential. Additionally, leveraging remote access tools and maintaining regular check-ins with client teams can help ensure a smooth rollout and user adoption.

About Canvas Medical

Canvas Medical, established in 2015, is the EMR company accelerating everyday medicine at the speed of science. Canvas helps customers optimize the clinician experience using itโ€™s unified architecture and developer tools โ€” enabling optimized workflows, connected patient experiences, and integrated healthcare data. Canvas works with customers across all care models and verticals, from direct-to-consumer virtual care to at-risk complex care and everything in between. About the Role

As an Implementation Manager, you will be the key driver in ensuring new customers successfully adopt the Canvas platform. You will lead clients through discovery, configuration, solution design, integration set up, and training. You will act as the customer-facing quarterback to ensure clinical workflows are implemented seamlessly to ensure a successful go-live.

Key components of this role include technical fluency and clear communication. You should be comfortable discussing topics such as system design, APIs, data models, and SDK-driven extensions. You should also be equally comfortable translating those concepts into plain language for non-technical stakeholders. Youโ€™ll bridge the gap between customer teams and internal Canvas teams by understanding system design, clarifying requirements, and turning complex technical details into actionable implementation plans that help customers adopt Canvas confidently within their broader ecosystem.

This position is an excellent fit for individuals with experience in healthcare technology, project management, and SaaS implementations, who excel in fast-paced, customer-facing environments.

What Youโ€™ll DoLead Implementations End-to-End
  • Own implementation plans, timelines, scope, and stakeholder communication from kickoff through go-live.

  • Run discovery to understand clinical, operational, data migration, and integration needs; translate findings into an implementation plan.

  • Manage risks, dependencies, and change control; keep projects moving with crisp updates and clear decision-making.

Workflow & Configuration Delivery (Core Product)
  • Partner with client clinical and operational leaders to design and implement workflows aligned to best practices.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert, helping customers understand system capabilities and Canvas best practices.

  • Guide customers through adoption milestones and ensure usability for end users.

Plugin & Extensibility Delivery (SDK / API)
  • Confidently navigate API/SDK concepts to unblock workflows, examples:

    • Walk a developer through generating API keys

    • Speak to specific API resources and basic error troubleshooting

    • Translate workflows into SDK-backed solutions

  • Willingness to learn how to use AI tools to accelerate plugin development and iterate on existing plugins (e.g. Claude code)

  • Translate customer workflows into plugin requirements and high-level designs

Post-Go-Live Success & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead stabilization and transition to ongoing support/customer success team.

  • Identify repeatable patterns, plugin gaps, and process improvements; share insights with internal teams.

  • Coordinate internally with Product/Engineering/Support to resolve questions and drive outcomes.

What Weโ€™re Looking For
  • Implementation experience in healthcare SaaS, EHR/EMR, practice management, billing, payer connectivity, clinical operations tools, or adjacent health tech.

  • Strong project management fundamentals: scoping, milestones, RAID (risks/assumptions/issues/dependencies), stakeholder comms.

  • Ability to reconstructing solutions from fundamental elements to drive radical innovation

  • Individuals that approach ambiguous problems with a hypothesis-driven mindset, identify key inputs / feedback loops and tests assumptions before scaling a solution

  • Technical curiosity and learning agility โ€” able to become conversant in APIs/SDKs quickly.

  • Experience collaborating with engineering/product on complex issues.

  • Comfort operating in fast-pace environment, running structured meetings, maintaining internal key stakeholders updated and driving decisions.

  • Experience with go-live planning and on-site/virtual launch support.

Nice to Haves
  • Experience training clinical staff and building enablement materials.

  • Familiarity with data migration concepts
