Job description

We are seeking a Microsoft Excel for Business Finance Subject Matter Expert (SME) to partner with our Curriculum Development Team to create skills‑based courseware aligned to the Microsoft Office Specialist: Excel for Business Finance Associate (Exam MO‑230) certification. You will apply real‑world business finance expertise in Excel 365 to design lessons, practice activities, and assessments that prepare K–12 and Higher Education learners for both academic success and industry‑recognized certification.
This is a remote, project‑based contract role with the potential for ongoing work.
What You Will Do
  • Review the course manuscript to determine where hands‑on Excel activities should be placed within each lesson.
  • For each activity, produce a complete package that includes:
    1. An Excel workbook (starter file and solution file) that reflects realistic business finance scenarios
    2. Step‑by‑step written instructions for students on how to complete the activity in Excel 365
    3. A simple screen‑recorded walkthrough of you completing the activity in Excel 365 and explaining the key steps and features (no professional editing required)
    4. Clear, high‑quality screenshots that show important formulas, tools, and intermediate results

  • Designed activities should directly map to the MO‑230 objective domains, including but not limited to:
    • Preparing financial data for analysis: importing data from various sources, removing duplicates, deleting or hiding rows/columns, formatting for consistency, using text and date functions, and applying Data Validation and protection.
    • Performing financial analysis: horizontal and vertical analysis, budget vs actual variance, variance vs benchmarks, financial metrics and pricing analysis, financial ratios, and time value of money calculations using Excel formulas and functions.
    • Performing loan and investment analysis: calculating loan values with financial functions, building loan amortization schedules, analyzing loan scenarios, calculating bond prices and yields, and creating stock valuation models in Excel.
    • Creating financial forecasts: analyzing historical data using formulas, creating Forecast Sheets, applying growth rates, projecting interest payments and cash budgets, and using What‑If Analysis tools (Goal Seek, Data Tables, Scenario Manager).

Required Qualifications
  • Expert‑level proficiency with Microsoft Excel 365, specifically applied to business finance (not just general spreadsheet use).
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Financial statement analysis, including horizontal analysis, vertical analysis, budget vs actual variance, and variance against benchmarks.
    • Financial metrics, pricing analysis, key financial ratios, and time‑value‑of‑money concepts implemented with Excel functions.
    • Loan modeling in Excel: payment calculations, loan values using financial functions, amortization schedules, and loan scenario analysis.
    • Investment modeling in Excel: calculating bond prices and yields using financial functions and building stock valuation models.
    • Forecasting and projections: analyzing historical data, using Forecast Sheet, applying growth rates, projecting interest and cash budgets, and using What‑If Analysis tools.
    • Dashboard and chart creation for financial KPIs, including identifying and correcting chart errors and improving accessibility and usability.
  • Experience teaching or developing curriculum for business, finance, accounting, or financial modeling (K–12, Higher Ed, or professional education).
  • Proven ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly using written instructions, visuals, and short videos.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in formulas, calculations, financial logic, and presentation.
Position Details
  • Type: Contract (remote)
  • Compensation: $400 upon completion
  • Start Date: As soon as a qualified SME is selected
If you have deep Excel‑for‑finance experience and are excited to help learners build job‑ready financial and analytical skills, we invite you to apply.
