Job description

The Elementary Curriculum Coach will support curriculum and instruction in Surry County Schools with a focus on elementary school support. The role of the Curriculum Coach will be:

  • To work with the Elementary C&I department to oversee elementary curriculum development and implementation
  • Assist with data disaggregation and MTSS implementation at assigned schools
  • Assist with curriculum material/textbook selection/professional development
  • Provide professional development to teachers and administrators
  • Provide instructional coaching and support for improvement, articulate vertical alignment for all academic areas, provide elementary support for all professional learning communities; and provide/model/support a system of interventions, support, and assessment at assigned schools.
The Elementary Curriculum Coach will report directly to the Assistant Superintendent over Curriculum and Instruction. The Coach will:
  • will support the vision for curriculum and instruction for the Surry County Schools
  • will stay up-to-date on instructional best practices
  • will remain up-to-date on curricular changes from the state level
  • will communicate curriculum updates and changes with the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction and Elementary principals.
*Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years+ teaching experience
  • Experience leading professional development with adults
  • Experience with curriculum writing and development
  • Working knowledge of elementary curriculum
  • Participation in comprehensive mathematics training
  • Evidence of success in working with adult learners
  • Evidence of strong communication and presentation skills
  • Evidence of strong planning and organizational skills
  • Strong commitment to collaboration through Professional Learning Communities
  • Evidence of successful leadership at the district level
*Qualifications should include a variety of the above, but all preferred qualifications are not required.
General Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of sound pedagogical practices and ability to articulate and model such practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of the NC Standard Course of Study and the MTSS framework.
  • Ability to work with adults to strengthen the capacity of adults as learners and educators
  • Ability to articulate and communicate expectations in a professional matter
  • Ability to work with large groups and make presentations before groups of people
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
Professional Development:
  • Provide in-service training and follow-up coaching to assist classroom teachers in the knowledge of research-based instructional strategies.
  • Work with teachers individually and in collaborative teams providing support on a full range of instructional strategies.
  • Provide professional development to improve Tier-1 Core instruction.
Professional Responsibilities:
  • Encourage literacy, mathematical thinking, and life-long learning
  • Maintain accurate and complete records for required documentation
  • Promote productive working relationships with school administrators and teachers
  • Attend selected professional development offerings and conferences as needed
Educational Requirements:
  • NC Teaching License
  • LETRS Trained
