POSITION SUMMARY:

The Scientific Content Manager develops and curates scientifically rigorous, audience-tailored content that communicates the value of MSD’s technologies, products, and platforms. This position ensures our marketing materials, thought leadership, and customer-facing assets are both technically accurate and commercially compelling. Working closely with Product Marketing, MarCom, R&D, and Key Opinion Leaders, this position translates complex science into clear, differentiated narratives that engage researchers and decision-makers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Content Development & Management

o Create high-quality content including application notes, white papers, case studies, scientific blog posts, webinars, and posters.

o Translate technical product features and data into compelling customer benefits tailored to specific market segments and personas.

o Collaborate with Product Marketing to ensure alignment of content with positioning, messaging, and campaign themes.

o Manage the editorial calendar for scientific content across channels (web, social, events, email, publications).

• Scientific Rigor & Storytelling

o Ensure all scientific content meets the highest standards of accuracy, clarity, and credibility.

o Collaborate with R&D, applications scientists, and KOLs to source data, customer stories, and technical insights.

o Develop narratives that contextualize MSD’s solutions within key research areas (oncology, immunology, neuroscience, translational medicine).

• Campaign & Demand Support

o Provide content that fuels campaigns including technical FAQs, slide decks, and explainer videos.

o Contribute to event content (symposia abstracts, scientific posters, booth theater talks).

o Support demand generation with gated content designed to capture leads and accelerate buyer journeys.

• Measurement & Optimization

o Define and track KPIs such as content downloads, webinar attendance, engagement time, lead quality, and pipeline contribution.

o Regularly review performance data to refine content strategy and formats.

o Stay current on scientific publishing trends and competitor content to ensure MSD’s materials remain differentiated.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Advanced degree in life sciences (e.g., molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry) or equivalent experience.

• A minimum of three years of experience in scientific communications, technical marketing, or related role in life sciences, biotech, or diagnostics.

• Experience collaborating with scientists, KOLs, and cross-functional commercial teams.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Proven ability to write clear, accurate, and compelling scientific content for varied audiences (researchers, clinicians, executives).

• Familiarity with digital marketing channels, SEO best practices, and content management systems.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate information into meaningful, understandable context and message, regardless of format.

• Excellent project management and organizational skills; able to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.

• Attention to detail and excellent proofreading skills with a keen eye for formatting, grammar, spelling, and overall look and feel.

• Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills, as well as the ability to handle complex situations and demonstrate sound judgment and problem solving.

• Ability to travel that can include overnight stays and working outside normal business hours as needed. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently required to sit and stand for long periods. The individual is occasionally required to walk; use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. This position requires travel up to 15% of the time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

COMPENSATION SUMMARY

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $78,100. to $116,200. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company's overall success.
