Summaryย 

The Director of Communications & Marketing will work directly under the supervision and guidance of the Chief External Relations Officer. The Director will lead the development and execution of an integrated communications and marketing strategy to expand Vital Voices' global brand, audience, and impact in alignment with our 2030 goals. This role will oversee content across all channels, including media, digital campaigns, email marketing, and events, working cross functionally to support Development, Events, and Programmatic teams. This position is based in Washington, DC with the option of a hybrid work schedule. We are not accepting remote candidates at this time. ย 

Additionalย responsibilities include:ย

  • Own andย optimizeย the Vitalย Voices'ย newsletterย and email marketing strategy, including lifecycle campaigns such as donor journeys, event promotions, and newsletter growth.ย Furtherย define and refine the voice of Vital Voices while incorporating the stories ofย network leaders into contentย ย 
  • Build innovative partnershipsย with prominent leaders, corporations,ย campaignsย and individualsย to expand brand awarenessย 
  • Collaborate with the Events and Development teams to maximize the impact and reach of both VVHQ and external events. Build andย optimizeย marketing funnels that support fundraising,ย eventsย and programmatic goalsย 
  • Support digital fundraising and donor acquisition strategies in collaboration with the Development teamย 
  • Build and manage multi-channel campaign calendars aligned with organizational priorities, including events,ย programs, andย fundraisingย 
  • Establish KPI's and use analytics tools to track and evaluate campaign performanceย 
  • Ghostย writeย for Vital Voices leaders & network leaders. Pitch Vital Voices pieces on key topics to press and mediaย 
  • Curate and manage the podcast series, including selecting relevant topics, scheduling guest speakers, and ensuring high-quality production and publicationย 
  • Produce and manage the Vital Voices Live Podcastย ย 
  • Strengthen our earned media efforts to enhanceย Vital Voices'ย visibility and credibility through strategic, non-paid promotional activities, including press releases, media outreach, and cultivating relationships with journalists and influencersย 
  • Lead content marketing strategy, ensuring alignment across email, social, and web to support audience growthย 
  • Other duties as assigned.ย 

Professional Qualifications:ย 

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred, plus8-12ย years of relevant work experienceย required
  • Strong demonstrated experience in global women's issues, refugee issues,and human rightsย strongly preferredย 
  • Demonstrated experience writing nuanced press releases, op-eds, newsletters/blogs, speeches, and organizational statementsย ย 
  • Demonstrated experience leading digital marketing campaigns with an understanding of analytics and performanceย ย 
  • Previousย experience managing CRM systems and campaign tools and platformsย 
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills in Englishย 
  • Experienceย managing communications channels surrounding global issues with diverse audiencesย 
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, swiftly shift priorities, and work in a dynamic environment with tight deadlinesย 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic teamย 
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office applications (esp. Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), social networking tools, and database software (i.e., Salesforce).ย Additionalย experience with Canva, Meltwater, Mailchimp, and other communications software preferred.ย ย 
  • Experience working cross-functionally to support keyย objectivesย and to help team membersย ย 

This position isย a full-time,ย exemptย hybrid position based in Washington, DC with two days ofย requiredย in person attendance at the Vital Voices Headquarters.ย If and whenย it is safe to travel, domestic and international travel up toย 15%ย ย mayย beย requiredย for the position.ย 

The starting salary range for this position isย $111,372 - $154.609ย based on experience and ability to haveย broadย impact early.ย ย
