The Prince William County Communications and Engagement Office is looking for creative thinkers, strong storytellers and digitally savvy communicators to help connect residents with the programs, services and initiatives that shape daily life in the county. This is an exciting opportunity for an emerging communications professional to gain hands-on experience, build a diverse portfolio, and contribute to work that directly impacts the community.

We're seeking someone who brings creativity, initiative and a passion for meaningful communication. About This Role: Prince William County is seeking an energetic and detail-oriented entry-level Communications Specialist to join the Communications and Engagement Office. This position supports a variety of communications initiatives designed to keep the public informed and engaged with county programs, services and priorities.

The ideal candidate is a creative communicator who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and collaborating with multiple departments. This role offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public sector communications, including social media management, content development, digital communications and community engagement. Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or G.E.D

and 2 years of internship or professional experience in communications, marketing, journalism, public affairs, or community engagement, including content creation for social media, websites, newsletters, or campaigns. Preferences: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, English, Public Administration, or related field Graphic design and/or video editing experience using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or similar platforms. Familiarity with local government or public sector communications.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication tools. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and design/editing tools.

Special Requirement May occasionally be required to work evenings or weekends to support county events, meetings, emergency communications or special initiatives. Work Schedule: Typically, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend hours based on operational needs, community events or emergency response activities.
