Job description

Job Title:Senior Claims Representative, Property Pay Information:Exempt, $95,000 - $105,000 per year  Location:Remote first work environment with occasional travel and in office meetings.
Candidate must life in California, Oregon, Washington, or Nevada. 
 
Job Purpose:
The Sr. Claims Rep, Property will manage, coordinate and appropriately direct the handling of complex dental commercial property and general liability claims, with minimum supervision, and will manage claims in accordance with established state mandated claims handling practices.

Essential Functions – must be able to perform with or without a reasonable accommodation:
  • Evaluating and making determinations on issues related to coverage;
  • Arranging for retention and review by coverage counsel on coverage related issues;
  • Investigating and making determinations related to cause and origin of loss;
  • Gathering key evidence, witness statements and early retention of legal counsel to optimize successful subrogation
  • Retaining and supervising outside adjusters, legal counsel and other vendors, to ensure efficient and timely adjustment of claims;
  • Managing and oversight of related losses and policyholders arising from a single event with varying complexities, damages and exposures;
  • Evaluating and establishing appropriate case reserves;
  • Attending, directing and coordinating meetings with policyholders, vendors, involved parties and consultants;
  • Attending trials, mediations, and settlement conferences; 
  • Negotiating claims resolutions with policyholders and involved parties;
  • Identifying, managing, negotiating and resolving all issues related to subrogation of claims;
  • Developing and documenting strategic plans and case evaluations;
  • Reviewing vendor bills to ensure they meet the strategic plans and budgets developed by the file handler and authorizing payment;
  • Identifying and evaluating possible responsibilities of third parties for subrogation recovery and managing all subrogation activity through trial; and  
  • Determining salvage value of damaged property contents and arranging for storage, sale or appropriate disposal.

Non-Essential Functions:
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • At least 10 years property and general liability claims experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of property and general liability coverage,
  • Knowledge of subrogation and salvage principles and the ability to review, interpret and apply insurance contracts, commercial leases and make coverage decisions. 
  • Experience in identifying and reporting fraud and knowledge of state specific SIU requirements. 
  • Ability to assemble, coordinate and manage a CAT team in the event of a disaster. 
  • Demonstrated record of accomplishment of successful negotiation and resolution of issues with policyholders, legal counsel, claimants and third parties. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience supervising outside adjusters, attorneys, and contractors.
  • Demonstrated diplomacy and tact while interacting with all levels within and outside of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform job duties independently, exercise good judgment and professionalism; and maintain confidentiality. 
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to operate Windows/Microsoft Office and a general claims system.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate’s or Bachelors’ degree with courses in insurance. 
  • Commercial property insurance and in-person negotiation experience.
  • Experience with claims management and estimating software programs.
