How much do remote chemical engineering jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 26, 2026, the average yearly pay for remote chemical engineering in the United States is $87,487.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $67,500.00 and $106,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What do the top 10% of chemical engineers make?

Top 10% of chemical engineers typically earn salaries above $130,000 annually, often due to extensive experience, advanced degrees, or specialized skills in areas like process design or safety. These engineers may also receive bonuses, stock options, or other incentives based on performance and industry sector.

Can you work remotely as a chemical engineer?

Yes, many chemical engineering roles can be performed remotely, especially those involving design, analysis, and computer-based tasks. However, some positions requiring laboratory work, plant supervision, or on-site inspections typically require physical presence. Remote work opportunities often depend on the employer, project requirements, and necessary certifications or tools like CAD software and communication platforms.

Can a chemical engineer make 200k a year?

Senior chemical engineers with extensive experience, specialized skills, and working in high-paying industries such as oil and gas or pharmaceuticals can earn salaries around or above $200,000 annually. Achieving this level often requires advanced degrees, professional certifications, and leadership roles, typically in managerial or specialized technical positions. Entry-level or mid-career chemical engineers generally earn less than this amount.

What is a Remote Chemical Engineering job?

A remote chemical engineering job involves applying chemical engineering principles to projects, research, or process optimization while working off-site. Engineers in these roles may focus on simulations, data analysis, product development, or consulting using digital tools. Common industries include pharmaceuticals, energy, and materials science. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential since work is conducted virtually with teams or clients.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Chemical Engineering position, and why are they important?

Strong foundations in chemical engineering principles, process design, and data analysis are essential, typically backed by a bachelor's or higher degree in chemical engineering. Familiarity with simulation software such as Aspen Plus, MATLAB, and various remote collaboration tools is frequently required, along with relevant certifications like Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in some cases. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and organizational skills help remote chemical engineers excel at managing projects, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and delivering results independently. These proficiencies enable remote engineers to effectively solve complex engineering problems while collaborating seamlessly in a distributed work environment.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior chemical engineers with extensive experience, advanced skills in process optimization, and leadership roles can earn salaries approaching or exceeding $500,000 annually, especially in high-paying industries like oil and gas or pharmaceuticals. Achieving this level often requires advanced degrees, specialized certifications, and management responsibilities.

What are some typical challenges faced by remote chemical engineers, and how are they addressed?

Remote chemical engineers often face challenges related to communication, real-time collaboration, and accessing on-site data or equipment. To address these, companies usually implement robust virtual collaboration platforms, remote monitoring systems, and regular video meetings to keep everyone aligned. Successful remote engineers proactively clarify project expectations, organize their workflow, and maintain open communication with colleagues across various departments. This ensures effective project execution and minimizes misunderstandings despite the physical distance from manufacturing sites or research facilities.

Job description

Job Summary:
YO IT Consulting is a fast-growing AI Data Services company delivering training data for many of the world’s largest AI companies and foundation-model labs. They are seeking a Chemical Engineering Quality Assurance Lead to oversee quality and consistency across chemical engineering AI training projects, ensuring that engineering training data is accurate and aligned with client expectations.
Responsibilities:
• Quality monitoring: Spot-check chemical engineering items, identify quality issues, provide ongoing feedback through DMs, and escalate recurring or critical issues.
• Technical review: Evaluate AI-generated engineering explanations, process calculations, mass/energy balances, reaction engineering solutions, separation process reasoning, process-control explanations, diagrams/descriptions, and problem-solving workflows for correctness and clarity.
• Trainer and QA communication: Update trainers and QAs on Discord about new item guidelines, project changes, workflow updates, quality expectations, and chemical-engineering-specific review standards.
• Question handling: Respond to trainer/QA questions clearly and promptly, especially around engineering assumptions, units, formulas, balances, reaction conditions, process constraints, safety concerns, standards references, and rubric interpretation.
• Trainer/QA activation management: DM contributors who are inactive or not working, encourage activation, track follow-ups, and flag availability issues when needed.
• Documentation: Create and maintain chemical engineering project documentation, including style guides, trackers, FAQs, quality notes, examples, honeypots, calibration tasks, and onboarding materials.
• Onboarding and training: Schedule and run onboarding/training calls with trainers and QAs to explain project expectations, workflows, rubrics, quality standards, and chemical-engineering-specific review requirements.
• Quality alignment: Ensure all trainers and QAs apply engineering guidelines consistently and understand updates as projects evolve.
• Risk and safety review: Flag unsafe, misleading, or overconfident engineering recommendations, especially where chemicals, process conditions, reactions, plant operations, pressure systems, thermal hazards, environmental impact, or worker safety may be affected.
• Process improvement: Identify recurring quality gaps, propose workflow improvements, and help build scalable QA processes for chemical engineering AI training projects.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
• Strong grasp of the English language to follow project guidelines, communicate with teams, and provide clear technical feedback in English.
• 3+ years of professional experience in chemical engineering, process engineering, plant operations, process design, R&D, manufacturing, process safety, technical review, engineering education, or related workflows.
• Strong understanding of core chemical engineering topics such as mass and energy balances, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, mass transfer, reaction engineering, separation processes, process control, transport phenomena, and process design.
• Ability to evaluate engineering content against detailed rubrics and identify issues such as incorrect assumptions, flawed calculations, missing units, unsafe recommendations, incomplete mass/energy balances, hallucinated standards, or incomplete explanations.
• Comfortable working in fast-moving remote environments using tools such as Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, and project management systems.
• Highly detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to maintain style guides, FAQs, trackers, onboarding materials, honeypots, calibration tasks, and other quality documentation.
Preferred:
• Familiarity with common chemical engineering tools or workflows such as Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, MATLAB, Python, CHEMCAD, COMSOL, process simulators, PFDs, P&IDs, Excel modeling, or process safety documentation.
• Experience leading or supporting remote teams of trainers, annotators, reviewers, engineers, technical writers, or QAs.
