Job description

Help X-ES deepen the materials foundation behind rugged single board computers and other embedded computing products. Join our Technology Development team to help characterize, select, and qualify materials; build and refine thermal/mechanical models; and support failure analysis execution and methodology development, for products operating in industrial, military, and aerospace environments.
This position is full-time and in-person at our Verona, WI facility for a Spring/Summer 2027 Co-Op (January - August 2027) or a Summer/Fall 2027 Co-Op (May - December 2027). A Co-Op typically requires students to take a semester off of school to accommodate.
Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Materials Science & Engineering (preferred), Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with a materials interest
  • Coursework in materials fundamentals (structure-property relationships, thermodynamics) and at least one of: polymers, metallurgy, ceramics, or electronic materials
  • Hands-on lab experience with methods such as optical microscopy, sample preparation, and mechanical testing
  • Familiarity with design of experiments (DOE) and data analysis tools a plus
  • Interest in FEA modeling a plus
  • Ability to creatively troubleshoot; strong attention to detail; self-motivated
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for documenting experiments and presenting findings
