Job description

Lumenci is seeking a Chief of Staff to partner directly with the CEO to drive strategic initiatives, operating rigor, and cross-functional execution across a high-growth legal technology, IP services, and AI business. This role is ideal for an early- to mid-career strategic operator (approximately five years of experience, MBA preferred) who thrives at the intersection of strategy, operations, data, and executive decision-making. The Chief of Staff will help translate complex legal, technical, and business information into clear priorities, measurable outcomes, and an effective operating rhythm across U.S. and India teams.

About Lumenci
Founded in 2018, Lumenci is a premier intellectual property consulting firm specializing in patent litigation, expert witness testimony, and patent monetization for leading corporations and global law firms operating across the software, telecommunications, semiconductors, and emerging technology sectors.
A key part of Lumenci’s model is the integration of deep technical expertise with litigation strategy. Our teams support high-stakes disputes by developing technical narratives, performing rigorous analysis, and partnering with world-class expert witnesses whose testimony shapes case outcomes in courts and arbitration forums worldwide.

Headquartered in Austin, Texas, with offices in San Francisco, New York, and Gurugram, India, Lumenci delivers end-to-end support spanning technical analysis, expert strategy, valuation, and monetization execution. Our differentiated approach, which combines engineering depth, litigation experience, and operational rigor, has resulted in long-term partnerships with leading law firms and technology companies navigating complex IP disputes. Lumenci is backed by VSS Capital Partners (“VSS”) and Century Equity Partners (“CEP”). VSS is a private equity firm dedicated to investing in tech-enabled business services, healthcare, and education companies. Since 1987, VSS has managed eight private capital funds with aggregate committed capital of nearly $4 billion across 103 platform companies and over 600 add-on acquisitions.

VSS’s investment in Lumenci was from VSS Structured Capital IV, L.P. (“VSS SC IV”), a $530 million fund which had its final closing in December 2022. CEP is a private equity firm headquartered in Boston, MA, that partners with companies seeking investments to support growth or fund acquisitions, partial buyouts, or recapitalization opportunities.

Role Overview

The Chief of Staff will partner closely with the CEO and leadership team to help scale Lumenci’s IP services and AI capabilities in the U.S. litigation market. This is a highly strategic, execution-focused role for an early- to mid-career operator who can act as a force multiplier for the CEO by driving follow-through on priorities, connecting work across functions, and supporting clear communication across the business.

The Chief of Staff will operate at the intersection of strategy, operations, executive coordination, and cross-functional execution. This role requires strong communication and relationship management across the leadership team, board, investors, and key stakeholders, including coordination across teams in the U.S. and India. The ideal candidate brings strong business judgment, executive presence, and exceptional communication skills, along with the ability to translate complexity into clear priorities and measurable progress. Experience working closely with founders and senior executives is important, and exposure to private equity-backed businesses, M&A, corporate development, product, or AI is strongly valued.

Key Responsibilities

CEO Partnership and Strategic Execution

  • Partner closely with the CEO on strategic priorities, operating decisions, and day-to-day execution support.

  • Provide a strong pulse on the organization by surfacing key risks, opportunities, and cross-functional issues.

  • Prepare executive-level materials for board meetings, investor updates, leadership reviews, and other high-priority communications.

  • Support the CEO in communications with investors and external stakeholders, ensuring timely follow-up and clear messaging.

Data Analysis and Executive Insights

  • Lead analysis of company-wide data related to products, litigation workflows, delivery performance, revenue, and growth.

  • Build and maintain executive dashboards, KPIs, and reporting tools that support data-driven decisions.

  • Synthesize legal, technical, operational, and financial data into clear insights, recommendations, and decision-ready narratives.

  • Partner with Finance, Sales, Growth, GTM, Product, Delivery, and Technology teams to improve data accuracy, visibility, and usability.

Strategic Alignment and Operating Cadence

  • Support the company’s operating cadence, including leadership KPI reviews, planning cycles, and follow-through on strategic priorities.

  • Help align stakeholders on decisions, timelines, and ownership to ensure consistent execution across functions.

  • Coordinate effectively across U.S. and India teams to keep leadership priorities connected and execution on track.

  • Serve as a central source of synthesized updates and insights for the CEO across core business functions.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Act as a connective leader across Product, Delivery, Sales, Marketing, Finance, People Operations, and other leadership functions.

  • Absorb and synthesize organizational context to provide leadership with timely, accurate inputs for decision-making.

  • Drive clear communication, accountability, and follow-through across cross-functional initiatives.

Special Projects and Scale Initiatives

  • Lead and support high-priority initiatives tied to growth, scale, operational improvement, and strategic business needs.

  • Support CEO meeting preparation, prioritization, and executive workflow management to improve focus and decision efficiency.

  • Contribute to M&A and other strategic initiatives as relevant to the company’s broader growth strategy.

  • Help shape longer-term U.S. operating capabilities as Lumenci continues to scale.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Approximately 4–7 years of experience in strategy, operations, analytics, consulting, investment banking, or program leadership roles.

  • MBA preferred (ideally early-career completion with subsequent operating experience).

  • Experience partnering closely with founders and senior executives; exposure to boards and investors is a plus.

  • Demonstrated strength in strategic thinking, business judgment, and executive communication.

  • Strong analytical skills, with experience turning complex data into actionable insights and operating recommendations.

  • Exposure to M&A, corporate development, or related strategic initiatives is strongly preferred.

  • Product, SaaS, or AI experience is a plus; working knowledge of AI is beneficial.

  • High degree of discretion, ownership, sound judgment, and comfort operating in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

Key Competencies
  • Strategic thinker with a strong execution orientation.

  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional influence.

  • Ability to absorb, synthesize, and communicate complex organizational context.

  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and navigating rapid change.

  • High judgment, discretion, and follow-through.
