What skills and qualifications are needed for a remote automotive?

To thrive as a Remote Automotive Specialist, you need a solid background in automotive technology, diagnostics, and repair, often supported by an associate’s degree or certifications such as ASE. Familiarity with diagnostic software, customer relationship management (CRM) platforms, and remote communication tools is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, customer service orientation, and effective verbal and written communication skills make candidates stand out. These skills enable accurate technical support, foster positive client interactions, and help resolve issues efficiently in a remote work environment.

What does a remote automotive do?

As a Remote Automotive Specialist, your day typically involves assisting customers or technicians by diagnosing automotive issues via phone, chat, or video, utilizing digital diagnostic tools and software. You may analyze vehicle data, provide step-by-step repair guidance, and document each interaction in a CRM system. The role requires strong organizational skills to manage multiple cases and consistently deliver high-quality support to clients and partner shops.

What is a remote automotive?

A Remote Automotive job allows professionals to work in the automotive industry from a remote location, rather than a physical dealership or office. These roles can include customer support, sales, technical support, automotive writing, design, and data analysis. Many remote automotive jobs leverage digital tools to assist customers, analyze vehicle performance, or contribute to research and development. This type of work is beneficial for those who prefer flexibility while still being involved in the automotive field.

Job description

Hybrid Remote Automotive BDC Representative
Paul Clark Ford | Yulee, Florida
Remote Position | Full-Time
Paul Clark Ford is looking for a driven, organized, and personable Hybrid Remote BDC Representative to join our growing sales team. You would work from home 3 days and at the dealership 2 days a week.
This is not a passive call-center position. We need someone who genuinely enjoys connecting with customers, follows up consistently, pays close attention to details, and is motivated by turning online opportunities into confirmed showroom appointments and vehicle sales.
You will be the first impression many customers have of our dealership. Your job is to respond quickly, build trust, uncover what the customer needs, and give them a compelling reason to visit Paul Clark Ford.
What You'll Do
  • Respond to internet leads by phone, text, and email within 15 minutes
  • Make consistent outbound calls to new, active, and unsold customers
  • Build genuine rapport and create excitement about purchasing from Paul Clark Ford
  • Schedule clear, confirmed appointments for the showroom
  • Follow up with customers before appointments to improve show rates
  • Re-engage customers who missed appointments or stopped responding
  • Maintain accurate notes, tasks, and customer information in VinSolutions
  • Follow the dealership's required CRM processes and communication schedules
  • Communicate appointment details and important customer information to the sales team
  • Follow up after showroom visits when a customer does not purchase
  • Work closely with the Internet/Showroom Manager to achieve individual and department goals

Success in this position means:
  • Every new lead receives a fast, professional response
  • CRM tasks are completed accurately and on time
  • Customers receive persistent but never pushy follow-up
  • Appointments are properly confirmed and prepared for the sales team
  • Appointment, show, and sold goals are consistently achieved
  • No customer opportunity is forgotten or allowed to fall through the cracks

The right person is:
  • Highly motivated and comfortable working toward measurable goals
  • Friendly, confident, and professional on the phone
  • Persistent and willing to follow up multiple times
  • Organized and extremely attentive to detail
  • Self-disciplined enough to remain productive while working remotely
  • Comfortable receiving coaching and being held accountable
  • Able to communicate clearly through phone, text, and email
  • Positive, competitive, dependable, and results-oriented
  • Comfortable learning new technology and working inside a CRM

Previous automotive BDC, dealership, appointment-setting, inside-sales, or call-center experience is strongly preferred. Experience with VinSolutions is a plus.
Remote-Work Requirements
Because this is a remote position, candidates must have:
  • A quiet, professional workspace
  • Dependable high-speed internet
  • Reliable attendance and availability during scheduled shifts
  • The ability to remain focused and productive without direct supervision
  • A professional environment for customer phone calls

This position requires consistent activity throughout the workday. Call volume, response time, appointments, show rate, sold customers, CRM activity, and task completion will be measured.
