Job description

Registered Nurse - Neurosurgical Unit

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule-D/E/N Rotating Shift Schedule - Weekends, Holidays/On-Call/Callback/Charge per Unit Needs 36 or 48 hours per week.

The neurosurgical unit offers extraordinary opportunities to care for a diverse patient population. Work with multidisciplinary teams specializing in brain tumors, spinal malformations, neuroendovascular, and epilepsy surgery. This is a mixed-acuity unit with both floor-level and an 8-bed high-acuity step-down unit for patients with more complex needs who require hemodynamic and neurological monitoring.

Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in a neurosurgical unit.

  • Conduct Q1 neuro checks for neurological assessment.
  • Manage EVDs, lumbar drains, and subdural drains.
  • Administer 3% NS, Cardene drips, and arterial lines.
  • Assist in carotid endarterectomy, aneurysm coiling/clips, and DBS insertion (Deep Brain Stimulator).
  • Manage VP shunts and seizure management as required.

Must have stepdown/PCU experience.

  • Two (2) years of nursing experience in high acuity stroke and neurosurgery.
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association ONLY).
  • Telemetry experience required.
  • NIHSS certification required.
  • RN License (Only NY Licenses are accepted at this time).
  • ACLS certification preferred.
