Job description

Job Summary
The Receptionist works in a Physicians' Practice office to assist patients and provide support to medical staff and providers. This position is responsible for greeting patients and visitors in the office and making sure the patients is as comfortable as possible while waiting. Also responsible for interviewing and gathering complete and accurate demographic and insurance data to complete all functions in a timely manner and inform patients of their rights, office policies, and procedures. The Receptionist answers incoming telephone calls from patients, families, referral sources, other medical providers, and vendors. Communicates patient's requests to medical staff and schedules acute visits, physicals, and follow-up appointments in a timely manner. This position manages any office documents or correspondence such as incoming mail, faxed reports, records requests, completed forms, and patient paperwork. The Receptionist also maintains adequate inventory of supplies, creates claims for services performed in the office, and completes point of service collections. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • One year previous medical/business office experience

  • Excellent communication skills to effectively and tactfully communicate with patients and their families and guests, co-workers, managers, providers and other hospital personnel on a one-to-one basis using appropriate grammar, vocabulary and word usage.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to carry out duties in a professional manner, as well as the ability to work well under stress.
  • Excellent time management, and organizational skills. Requires ability to problem solve, multi-task in a fast-paced setting and work well in a team environment.
  • Developed computer skills to include proficiency with Microsoft Office, telephone system and the ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to department operations and job function.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • High degree of accuracy with concentration and close attention to detail.
  • Ability to be discreet and protect the integrity of any confidential matter or information encountered during the performance of job duties.

  • Typical office environment with prolonged sitting.
  • Work maybe subject to interruption and occasional high stress levels.
  • Ability to work occasional extended hours, based on the needs of the practice and flexibility to work at other practice locations.
