Job description

Financial Controller (Temporary)
Location: Albion, MI (Hybrid after training)
Duration: Temporary Assignment (3+ Months)
Pay: Up to $45.00/hour depending on experience
Schedule: Monday–Friday | Typically 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (Overtime as needed during month-end)
About the Opportunity
We're seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to support our accounting operations during an exciting period of growth and acquisition. This is a key role focused on maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, and ensuring accounting operations stay on track.
This is not a highly strategic finance role—we're looking for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, cleaning up financials, reconciling accounts, and keeping everything current.
The position is based at our modern office located on a working agricultural property in Albion, MI. While the setting is on a farm with equipment and crops nearby, you'll have your own private office in a professional environment.
What You'll Do
  • Maintain the company's accounting records in QuickBooks Online
  • Perform bank reconciliations across multiple bank accounts
  • Prepare and review monthly Profit & Loss Statements and Balance Sheets
  • Ensure fixed assets are properly recorded and depreciation is accurate
  • Record payroll journal entries and ensure payroll accruals are allocated correctly (HR processes payroll)
  • Enter and reconcile outside costs and journal entries into QuickBooks
  • Ensure quarterly tax filings and financial records remain accurate and compliant
  • Support month-end close activities and maintain the general ledger
  • Assist with audit preparation and maintain strong accounting controls
  • Partner with leadership during an ongoing business acquisition
  • Supervise an Accountant and AP Specialist as needed
Note: Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable are primarily handled by the existing team. This role is focused on maintaining accurate financial reporting, reconciliations, and bringing the books up to date.
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a Controller or Senior Accountant role
  • QuickBooks Online experience is required
  • Strong experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, accruals, month-end close, bank reconciliations, depreciation, and financial reporting
  • Experience preparing P&L Statements and Balance Sheets
  • Knowledge of quarterly tax reporting and accounting compliance
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience in manufacturing, agriculture, cannabis, or similar industries is preferred
  • Experience supporting multi-state operations is a plus
Education
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred, but not required.
Work Environment
  • On-site for the first two weeks of training
  • Hybrid schedule available after training (on-site for morning meetings with flexibility to work remotely afterward)
  • Casual dress code—jeans are welcome
  • Modern private office located on a working farm property
If you're an experienced accounting professional who enjoys hands-on accounting, reconciliations, and keeping financials accurate during a critical business transition, we'd love to hear from you.
