Position Summary

SSC Advisors is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Assistant to the Controller to support the firm's internal accounting and financial operations. This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records, processing payroll, administering benefits, reconciling general ledger accounts, and supporting the monthly financial close process.

The ideal candidate has experience working with payroll systems integrated with Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), strong general ledger accounting skills, and proficiency with modern accounting software platforms. This individual must be comfortable managing confidential information, meeting deadlines, and collaborating with team members across multiple departments.

Essential Responsibilities

Payroll Administration

  • Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and timely.
  • Maintains payroll records and employee compensation data.
  • Coordinates payroll changes including new hires, terminations, compensation adjustments, deductions, and benefits changes.
  • Reconcile payroll reports and payroll-related general ledger accounts.
  • Assists with payroll tax reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Works closely with Human Resources to ensure data accuracy between payroll and HRIS platforms.
  • Supports year-end payroll processes, including W-2 preparation and reporting.

General Ledger Accounting

  • Maintains accurate general ledger records and supporting documentation.
  • Investigates and resolves discrepancies and accounting variances.
  • Assists with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.

Benefit Administration

· Administer and manage employee benefit programs, including new hire enrollments, annual open enrollment, and qualifying life event changes.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Assists in the preparation of monthly financial reports.
  • Supports budget-to-actual reporting and variance analysis.
  • Maintains financial reporting schedules and work papers.
  • Provides financial information and analysis to the Controller as requested.

Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Follows established accounting policies and internal control procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive employee and financial information.
  • Ensure payroll and accounting processes comply with applicable regulations and firm policies.

Operational Support

  • Assists with accounts payable and other accounting functions as needed.
  • Participates in process improvement initiatives and accounting system enhancements.
  • Collaborate with administrative, HR, and leadership teams on special projects.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience.
  • Experience processing payroll within an HRIS/payroll system environment.
  • Experience working with accounting software and general ledger systems.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and account reconciliations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Preferred

  • Experience in a professional services or public accounting environment.
  • Experience with payroll tax reporting and compliance.
  • Experience with cloud-based accounting software.
  • Knowledge of Intacct and BambooHR.
  • Knowledge of employee benefits accounting and payroll-related reconciliations.
